Ordered through CHOMP, called to complain: An Italian beef without au jus is just like pancakes without Maple syrup... why bother. I asked for extra but got ZERO.Their food cart was soooo good but quality has dipped since the establishment of their brick and mortar location. 3 bad experiences = 1 poor review... and trust me, I was really rooting for these guys.
Skimpy portions and soggy fries! I ordered George's gyro, fries and a carne de res street taco. Very little meat on both items and soggy, wet fries. Could have saved my $20
Despite living in Iowa City for over half a decade, I only recently tried Marco's for the first time. Carryout service speed was par, I had my food within about 10 minutes of ordering. The grilled PB&J must have been put on the same time as the rest of my order, because it was lukewarm when I got home with it. The regular grilled cheese was okay. It was just that- a grilled cheese, and only that, which was a bit disappointing for $5.50. The entirety of the rest of the menu, however, appeared delicious, creative, and diverse. The venue's decades-spanning history is "baked" into its selection. The "Ultimate" was great, I crave one every time I drive by Market & Linn and see the Marco's sign down the road. The location itself was acceptably clean. There were maybe six other patrons in the restaurant, although this was on one of Iowa City's much tamer and frigidly cold Saturday evenings. I imagine this place gets packed on busier nights, as it's not exactly spacious.
Be careful when you book their food cart for an event, they may not show. We booked them our wedding, confirmed the date and paid the deposit. Our wedding date comes and the time they agreed to be there comes and no sign of them. Call the restaurant and told someone would call us right back. 15 minutes later without a call we reach out and get told the same thing. People at our venue called and brushed off without any explanation as well. We had to resort to ordering Casey's Pizza. The whole day came and went without any communication from them. The next day we reached out to the company Facebook page as well as sending messages and emails to the owners. Finally got a reply with an apology, but we learned that the owner was aware of the issue the day before and hadn't reached out. Also that this wasn't the first time. If we knew this had happened before, we wouldn't have booked them. So we felt we should put our experience out there so others could have an informed decision. We made the best of the day but having your food vendor not show up without any communication put a damper on the day.
Got super zonked and ordered a gyro that tasted so good it felt like I was eating a gyro for the first time. Truly a religious experience
To keep it brief, we booked their food truck for our wedding. They failed to show up and failed to return any calls or communicate in any that they wouldn't make it. The next day they finally reached out, but too little too late.
My husband ordered the Cuban Sandwich and I ordered an Italian Roast Beef on gluten free bread with tomato bisque soup on the side. Honestly, the food was incredibly delicious and cooked perfectly. However, the serving portions were rather small for the cost and the presentation was missing a garnish of some sort. Of course, none of the prices will break the bank and this place is definitely worth trying.
Love the food here it’s delicious. I really like the gyro grilled cheese.
my friend and i came here late night and our cravings were definitely satisfied. can't wait to try more menu items!
