One of the best restaurants I have been to in downtown Iowa City. Close to hilton hotel where I stayed for over a month. Had gone there for the first time with my coworkers and I loved the place, service and oh boy the food. Peter who served us was very welcoming and suggested few drinks and dishesh with charm. He has great ability to keep the customer engaged and happy. He suggested A different style of Margarita and I fell in love with it so much, that I have had it many a times since then. Chicken Marsala almost gave me foodgasm and so did the onion rings. They have a bar outside where I had a few drinks, Thanks to Peter and Hannah for their great customer service and I shall visit Josephs again soon.

So disappointed by Joseph’s. I had previously gone and was so excited to bring my fiancée for our anniversary dinner. I made a reservation and stated what it was for. First, we were sat by the bathroom. I could barely hear anything he had to say. And to top it off, our waitress charged us for the wrong meal. And instead of losing the ($10) difference she came back and told us about what was going on and DOUBLE charged our card and told us WE had to then deal with the bank to have the first charged canceled.
Nice high end dining. The onion rings are the best I've ever had. The tomahawk pork chop was large and cooked perfectly. Sides were well matched to the entree. Good service.
best steakhouse in iowa city. there are curtains that separate the larger tables for more private, intimate parties. perfect place for any celebration
Yas! This place is a gem ? I went with my husband and ordered the 16 ounce steak and it was so juicy and tender and flavorful! Will definitely come again.
The food was decent. The vibe is weird with the curtains. It reminds me of a horror movie. One of the waiters was very rude and it was clear that he didn’t want to serve us so another guy stepped up. We proceeded to see our first waiter go to the table next to us and act much more welcoming. It killed the experience for us. Instead of enjoying our meal, we were worried about his actions. Maybe it was because I’m a minority, maybe it was because we didn’t get drinks. Either way, it was a very bad look. Would never go back to this place. There are much better restaurants in Iowa City.
Decadence is behind the steel door.Seeking something a little finer than the normal before a show at the James Theater, I wandered in Joseph Steakhouse unsure of what expect. The hotress kindly offered me a seat at the bar, since all the tables were reserved. My mistake, honestly wasn't sure what I was walking into.The bartender whose name I never got, was a complete gentleman and made wonderous cocktails and checked in every now and then. After the main course he jokingly ask if he should even ask how everything was. Haha, like he needed to ask. The food was simply divine and made me miss my home away from home Chicago.Wish I brought a book, the bar was so cozy I could have sat there for hours reading and sipping another cocktail.Thank you Joseph's, you made a pre-show evening all that more wonderful. We visited Josephs’s for the first time in February and we were not disappointed! The service was top notch, the fare was impeccable and the atmosphere stupendous! We will definitely be back. We started off with shrimp cocktail which was unbelievable! Perfect shrimp with awesome remoulade sauce. We both chose menu options, my wife selecting beef tips and fettuccine which was excellent. I went with Chicken Marsala which was very good though not a traditional Marsala sauce. The cocktails were excellent as well. I highly recommend the Old Fashioned. Desert was decadent with my wife selecting Creme brûlée and I chose the bread pudding. Both were luxurious! All in all a fabulous experience!
Their general manager was very accommodating regarding a reservation request. Additionally, their food is always very fresh and very well prepared. Really enjoy everything from the atmosphere to the staff to the food - wonderful experience!
