Great coffee and breakfast food. I tried the Eggs Benedict Florentine during my visit. The poached egg was a little overcooked for both (the yolk should run out beautifully when cut through, not 30% runny 70% cooked), but overall it tastes good, especially the hollandaise sauce! Hash Browns were alright, could be crispier. The chilled coffee and the friendly staff was definitely the highlight.
Excellent food with outstanding service. I had the omelet with the smoked salmon & chive cream cheese. Sounds weird but it was delicious! Daughter has the Eggs Benedict which were outstanding as well. A REAL Hollandaise sauce. Son had the waffles but they were gone before I could ask for a taste. Service was quick for a busy Sunday morning. Prices are great for what your are getting. Definitely on my radar if I’m looking for a meal in Iowa City.
The price was right. Service was expedient but friendly. The food was FULL of flavor - I had the Raging Cajun omelette and Krakatoa Browns. First visit and I drove over from the QC just to dine here. I’ll be back.
Bluebirds is one of those diners that like to put a new take on some traditional style meals. Ordered Biscuits & gravy. It was okay. The biscuit(single) was on the small side but had good flavor. They added a small sausage patty on each side of the biscuit, it to had a decent flavor. The gravy was perfect as well. Hashbrowns tasted good, & the egg was cooked perfectly. They had clean bathrooms. Had to pay for parking. Overall was an good experience.
Excellent service - fast & friendly - and delicious food. They also sell THE BEST cinnamon rolls EVER! We bought ours to go. They're HUGE, and came with a generous serving of homemade, light, whipped cream cheese frosting on the side, with instructions to heat for 60-90 secs, frost as desired and enjoy! The daily specials are also creative and amazing! Atmosphere/decor was simple retro-diner, seat yourself at a clean table and menus brought with immediacy. Looked like they were getting ready to set up outdoor seating, as well. Will definitely be back!
Nice little diner with a great menu. If you like a delicious pork tenderloin that is way bigger than your hand (and I have big hands), on a buttery brioche bun, this is your spot!
Walked in around 10:30 am in a typical Wednesday morning and were politely asked to wait a moment while they cleaned a table for our family. They promptly cleaned a booth and we were seated immediately. They gave us a menu and crayons with an adorable bluebird picture and fact sheet for our daughter to color. The restaurant was bustling and you could tell they had been slammed earlier in the morning. Our waitress was pleasant and friendly. Our meals did not take long to arrive, just long enough for us all to receive one refill on our drinks. My daughter and I had pancakes. Oddly enough Our daughter preferred my gluten-free ones. Well I didn’t try hers, they sure did look good, mine were perfect combination of being fluffy yet not airy. My husband had chicken fried steak and eggs which he said were delicious. I had commented that my ice tea was very good and I liked that I had a different flavor the waitress offered to give me a glass to go which I thought was going over and above on customer service. Waitress also took the time to thank us for being so kind today and it really took me back, because I didn’t think that we were being extra kind. It really made me think of how awful so many people must treat waitresses on a daily basis. Be kind to the staff.
My daughters favorite place anywhere. I wish u were here Laela. I got great service today, colored a bird and then ate Hemingway eggs Benedict. Their featured hot sauce is ok but I prefer Cholula and franks. This is my neighborhood spot and I love the food and also the hectic busy vibe.
Believe the hype! This place is great! I had the green chili on eggs with polenta. Sounds strange, but amazing! My wife had biscuits and gravy. Homemade sausage patties were fabulous. Our daughter had steak and eggs. Cooked perfectly, and she had her first legal mimosa! (21 today!) Totally worth the wait!
Great menu. Fantastic food. Excellent service. Serena was our server and she made us feel welcome like we were in a friends kitchen. Great decor. Worth stopping in
