Oh my....Voted best nachos in Des Moines for over a decade, maybe 2 decades and that's no coincidence. Now, I've only ever had the nachos there so I'm a little biased, but if that is the barometer for great grub..run, don't walk to the University Library. The employees are top-notch,the grub is great, why are you reading this and not already dining there . ?
Small diner putting out big food. It was great to sit with my buddy. Place was busy but not too loud. Server did a great job. Had the breakfast burrito with cheese sauce and chili and a side of pancakes. Good stuff. Looking forward to going again when I can try the craft beer selection
Good lil hole in the wall place. Friendly atmosphere. Huge selection of craft beer. Bartenders were both socially interactive. The price for a glass of Bud Light was a bit pricey compared to other places in the Drake area.
My waitress, Mallory, was terrific. The long island...delightful .. I had crab cakes Benedict... it was ok. The eggs were cooked too perfection but the crab cakes and hollandaise sauce was.. well not as good as the eggs... However, with that said, I had covid over Christmas in 2020 and my taste buds just aren't the same anymore...
The roast beef nachos were great but the jalapeno havarti was sub par. Usually it's one of my favorite burgers in town, but this time it wasn't. We got our side dish, Mac and cheese 10 minutes before our burgers, and it was cold. The cheese wasn't even melted. The same with our burgers the cheese was barely melted and the bun was untoasted. Also the beef was not seasoned nor did it taste as good as it usually does. I don't know if it was a new cook or what but I'm not sure if we want to go there for burgers anymore. Sorry Bruno.Should have gone to High Life for broasted chicken
Good beer selection, cozy environment, and good comfort food! I had the veggie burger and mac and cheese. It was delish!
Generally, I enjoy a meal here about once a year or so. Figure it was an off day. Honestly I would still recommend this little gem when in the DrakeVinicity
I'd gone here a handful of times as a Drake student. Always enjoyed it. Have been going more frequently the last few weeks since moving into a place nearby. An absolute gem! Madison and Mal, in particular, are great humans and super fun--work well as a team and treat customers well. (They seem to have developed a troop of regulars.) Great food, great beer selection. A homey place for all.**ALSO: as someone who has tended bar before, don't ever trust a review where the author feels the need to a) clarify how many drinks they wanted or had, or b) try to flaunt their credentials, as if being an a**hole should be excused depending on your social class or profession. ?
Myself and a group of friends came in to have a few beers after work. The moment we walked in the door the waitresses were EXTREMELY rude, especially one in particular. She couldn’t look us in the eye was rude af when she came to our table to take our order, she couldn’t make eye contact. We brushed it off, but every time we would ask for something she snapped at us. Finally I had to say something. I asked her name, she lied about her name then she proceeded to tell us she did not want to wait on the FOUR of us anymore and we should leave. Just like that. No explanation. I was with two well known Doctors and two nurses. Having a beer just one. Luckily one of the doctors will be making a call to the manager they happen to know. I would say it’s not a very friendly place at all. I can’t recall being treated so terribly by some one working in this industry. I’m disappointed in the Library I had never been there before and I will not be returning. No recommendations to the library if they have staff like what we experienced. Horrible I wouldn’t even give it one star based on staff and environment at this point. Sadly disappointed. Will not return.
It was my first time here and I honestly loved it. The specials were amazing the drink options were great too. My waiter was also very friendly and we had a great conversation while I was there. Parking will most likely be on the street but worth the short walk to get back to the pub.
