Fun place in a fun city. Good stop if you're in the area. The food and drinks were very good. Cool looking place too.
Great place for a beer! Try the cheesesteak egg rolls! Really good atmosphere and very friendly service. Would come back!
Meh. So so. Beer selection is good. Good is mediocre at best. Burger had a soggy bun. Sandwich we had was over done. Service was as decent. Typical bar food. Nothing special
Always like to give a brewery or tap house a try when in a new city. They had some many choices on tap, though some were out of stock, but still other selections to be made. Another quick order to food turn around. Servers are really nice. Beers and ciders were tasty. Would recommend. Food was just as good as well.
My best friend got married here in April. Everything went perfectly. The crew there laid out everything in a way that let the people traffic flow smoothly very nicely. Everything was customizable so the bride and groom to set out or attach their wedding décor. The bar staff was very efficient and deserved the pile of tips that mounted up throughout the night. The food was excellent. I will say, if you are considering getting married in Des Moines, and you're looking at this place, ask to sample the Hunter's Chicken entrée. My goodness, I've never had anything like it before, and I will hunt the same experience for the rest of my life. After the reception, we shut the place down in the actual Taproom. And it was such a cool space. The bar area resembled the side of a giant keg with literally dozens of taps sticking out of it. And I hear they rotate them very regularly. In a town with more breweries than people, this one really stuck out as unique to me.Overall, thank you, Iowa Taproom, for making my best friend's special day absolutely perfect.
My girlfriend and I came for an early dinner today. We sat outside and had to wait 15 minutes to even get waters. Servers would walk by and I would attempt to make eye contact but they just did not even take a minute. We were visually sitting there ready. Finally a woman came out and gave us our waters. We decided to order right away. She did not seem to happy about it, but took our orders anyway. I want to also say the restaurant was not busy at all. About 35 minutes later we got our food. In this time we had run out of water, and nobody had checked in, they just walked by. Our food was ordered, two burgers were ordered medium rare. Both were delivered visibly well-done and very dry. The food sucked and we left after paying. As of right now, I do not recommend.
Cute atmosphere, great beer selection, below average food. I’ve never used the salt and pepper shakers before at a restaurant, but I had to before every bite to get any semblance of flavor. Go for the beer, but save the money on the food. I can make a better French dip by buying sliced roast beef and bread, then microwaving it. That might be what they do here. I wouldn’t be surprised.
We've been here twice (from out of town) and have not been disappointed either time! This trip, I had the buffalo chicken sandwich (grilled), my husband had the fish tacos, and my son (4yo) had the corn dog nuggets. We were all very happy with our food! It's nice that a 'taproom' also offers wine and other options than beer for alcoholic drinks. The service was terrific, there are plenty of TVs if you want to watch sports, the location is perfect in the East Village, and we love it here! Although the next time I come back, I'm definitely stealing my husband's order of the fish tacos! Those were AMAZING.
Not a beer person, but that didn't stop me from going there to eat. Have been back a few times and the food is excellent!
Had a real nice meal at The Iowa Taproom this past Saturday. I would say that the place was just over 1/2 full at around 11:30am, and yes, we've been there when it's packed (right at the noon hour, dinner time, Happy Hour, etc. My point is, make your plans to avoid these busy times if crowds are not your thing, but make no mistake, this place is HUGE. I've never had to wait for a table. The menu has a varied choice of beer options (of course) but the food is tops! My wife seems to settle on the meatloaf sandwich nearly every time, and I LOVE the Tenderloin, Blackened Salmon Tacos, or on this visit ... the Fish and Chips. (Photo) The Fish is just lightly breaded (which I like) and there's something about their fries that I just love. The coleslaw is awesome too. Now, I know you're waiting for it so here it is. If you've read past reviews of mine, you know I tend to include a review of the restroom facilities. Hey, I think that a place (especially such as The Iowa Taproom on a busy day) should be commended for keeping the facilities clean. Well, I wasn't disappointed.5 stars for The Iowa Taproom
