Have been there a few times. The pizza isn't my favorite, but it's definitely edible. Not bad, just not something I would go out of my way for. The pasta I had before was very good. So why the bad review? Both times I have been there service was bad. Not slow(at least tonight), but bad. Tonight they were just plain rude. One older lady, who I think was a manager, was particularly rude. The waitress we had was pretty attentive. The "manager" was inexcusable. I grew up in the restaurant business and I am not a high maintenance or demanding customer. The treatment we have received both times we were there was baffling. Maybe since we aren't "regulars"? Also, the steak I ordered for my daughter to go looked like it had been chewed by a dog before they put it in the container. It was off their Ala Carte menu and pretty cheap. Just never seen steak served like that. They are kind of close to my house, so I would love to like it, but probably won't return.

We had a terrible experience. Service was slow...which I understand in todays new "normal"...but the big BUT the OWNER came to our table and yelled at us for bringing in a cake for my dads birthday. My husband and I are in the business...we get bringing outside food into a restaurant. We weren't going to eat it. My dad brought it in to give some to my 4 year son who loves birthdays and cake. Instead of kindly reminding us of the policy...she came up to our table and abruptly yelled at us. I then went up to her and asked her why she handled the situation that abruptly...no sorry, no humility, nothing. I will NEVER be back. Thank you for ruining that experience for myself and my family. First time experience dining at Sonny’s. It definitely will not be the last. My waitress Colee was amazing!! The red sauce was top notch. The Chicken DeBurgo was hands down the best I’ve had. I loved the creamy garlic sauce!! Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo was fantastic. The meatballs are delicious. The Chocolate Covered Raspberry Martini is a must try!!! If you love raspberry drinks, you won’t be disappointed. Sonny’s is definitely a hidden gem in the Ankeny/Des Moines area for dining. Comfy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Fantastic service. I recommend every to try this place.
[November] Finally! We tried Sonny's!I used to work for Lori Vacco and am so happy to have reconnected after many years! So, we had to go experience Sonny's for ourselves.Bruschetta, Tuscan pizza, and chicken Romano.Okay, I have to admit, I hadn't picked up a jar of Sonny's red sauce at Hy-Vee. But, I will tell you the first item on my grocery list is! Wow. That is hands-down, the best red sauce I've had! ???
My favorite little Italian bistro to eat at. Wonderful food. Try the cavatelli with a meatball at lunch( order a Xtra meatball, you'll wish you did if you dont). Fair prices. Great place for a romantic dinner.
We always enjoy Sonny's. The pizza and other dishes are great. We love the local establishment and is an off-the-beaten-path option that is worth it!
Take out pizza was great. Great ingredients with good value! Won't eat in- very few if any masks seen in the whole place.
