We had an amazing experience from the minute we walked in the door. We had been playing since April and traveling most of July with our daughter’s basketball program and this was our last stop. The staff was so accommodating and helpful. They offered us shuttle service, help with our luggage and tips for what to do around town. And that was just within the first few minutes. The hotel is beautifully renovated and in a great location. I highly recommend staying here and can’t wait until we can come back. Thank you for the hospitality!

This is a very old historic building...is it perfect no! However my wife and I really enjoy this spot. It's a great location for downtown Des Moines. Easy walking to anything. Close parking ramps that cost $3 for an overnight. Elevators are old and probably need an upgrade! Overall a solid location

I love Renaissance hotels for their quaint and unique style and this was no exception! The hotel staff was some of the friendliest I have had and they went out of their way to make the stay amazing. There were complimentary appetizers and wine in the evening as a thank you and the hostess was awesome. Parking was a breeze at the garage across the street and the connecting skywalks made getting everywhere easy. I will definitely stay again!

How disappointing the Renaissance Savory is. My wife and I have stayed at this hotel dozens of times when we travel to Des Moines on business, and occasionally for pleasure travel. NEVER AGAIN! This hotel used to have class and charm. The “new” renovations has a sleezy Vegas feel to them, especially in the brightly lit LED hallways along with room directional signs that are indecipherable. Worst of all, our room (560) was TINY, TINY, TINY. As one other customer stated, you can BARELY fit one person in the bathroom. A person HAS SIT SIDEWAYS on the toilet. The A/C unit kept noisily turning on and off every 5 minutes. It was impossible to sleep. To top every thing off, the view outside our window was a large brick wall just feet away Sad to say we will not return. The room we stayed in should NOT be at their normal rates.

I love the old buildings of downtown Des Moines - so much character and history of the midwest. So I was really excited when the Savery began remodeling 4 or 5 years ago. I finally had the opportunity to stay there. Great old building, great access to parking, restaurants and the skywalk. Reasonably priced, fairly clean with helpful staff. But gee. there are some issues. I am a connoisseur of old buildings and readily accept some of the limitations they can present, but the design of these rooms is really poor. The bathroom is tiny, tiny, tiny. Its only suitable for one or two guests in a room, and if you are a large person, be prepared to sit on the toilet sideways because of the way it is crammed into this small space. No counter space whatsoever in the bathroom. There is ample space in the main room but it is so poorly utilized. Access to the closet requires gymnastics along the side of one of the beds and there is this modestly sized empty space between the beds and the desk/entertainment center. No place to lay open a suitcase except on the wide open floor. The room does have a minifridge. This hotel (like so many post-pandemic - can I say that?) had a skeleton staff whom were each helpful. Mobile key with the phone once again did not work so I gave up on that almost immediately. Aside from the design, the room was fairly clean, the furnishings and amenities were what you would expect from a Renaissance. The fitness facility was empty 99% of the time and the equipment was fine - even had a Peloton bike. The restaurant served a nice breakfast - at the time, my party and I were the only ones there and the service was exceptional. So there was a lot to like but I still came away disappointed because of the poor room design. Would I stay there again? I would probably opt for the Marriott nearby but sometimes you can get a good buy with the Savery and the location is better for me - so maybe.

Surprisingly affordable breakfast buffet for a hotel. Service was wonderfully caring and top notch, nice Midwestern vibes…

The staff go above and beyond to make the stay special. The rooms were small, and could use a few updates (ie: peeling paint in bathroom), but other than that, the hotel experience was great. I loved the mimosas and pastries in the morning, the beds were comfortable and the location was perfect for us.

Valerie made the breakfast 5 stars. She was so nice and accommodating, can't say enough nice things about her and the experience we had because of her. Breakfast buffet was good, nothing out of the ordinary. Valerie made the difference between 4 and 5 stars.

Very pleasant stay at the Renaissance Savery in Downtown Des Moines. All front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast at the restaurant was limited but service was excellent and the food was good. The clear standout was my cocktail and meal at the Coda Lounge in the lobby. I met Kim the bartender and she was outstanding! A true artisan of craft cocktails we discussed the Manhatttan and she created a new version that is possibly the best cocktail I have ever had. It includes Woodford bourbon, St. Germain, Sweet vermouth and lavender bitters which they create in house. I have included a picture because it is as tasty as it is stunning! Kim, thank you for providing such an enjoyable experience for my last evening in Des Moines. I will definitely stay at the Savery and see you for that great cocktail when I am scheduled to work in Des Moines in the future!

My husband and I stayed for our anniversary. Gary at the front desk was so kind to us and helped make it special. He recommend a place for dinner, Fresko’s , and brought up a bottle of champagne for us to help celebrate. The hotel was beautiful, historical and lovely.
