This was one of the loudest restaurants I have ever been in. I debated whether to even post this review as I didn't even manage to try the food; by the time my water was brought to the table my ears were already hurting. The restaurant has bare walls and ceiling, which both reflect sound quite well. This (unfortunately) meant that a particularly loud large party made the restaurant unbearable to be in.To the owner, please consider hanging something, (anything,) on the walls to deaden the acoustics. A drop ceiling would help immensely as well.
Fantastic experience. I hadn't been here since before the pandemic and finally got around to trying it again, and it was just as good as I remembered. Our waitress was amazing and kept up on refills- which was greatly appreciated considering the hot day outside. My table started with the vegetable tempura, which is always a hit, and I ended up getting the sashimi salad and a vegetable roll both of which were delicious. My friend got the salmon, which was also amazing (we all traded bites so we could try a little of everything!)The service can be a little slow, and the food comes out in different rounds (like my salad coming first, then my and a friend's sushi, then my other friends salmon) but as we weren't in a rush it certainly wasn't minded, plus the quality of the food made it worth the wait.I'll definitely be coming back soon!
Really good sushi! The waitress was nice, bit food was slow to come out. Not all our food came out at once. One gal in our party waited 10+ mins to get her meal while we all had ours. The waitress couldn't keep track of who had what meals etc.
Walked in for what I thought would be a delicious lunch. Greeted by the host, I was then told to sit at the sushi bar. By no means was this a packed lunch. Seemed like normal Tuesday traffic. Not a single person asked for my order or got me a drink. Waiting 10 minutes was a generous amount of time. Saw servers standing around chatting. Food’s great but the service is lacking.
Ate here many times before, and with the new owner taking over the restaurant, it's just as good (If not a tad better)! The sushi I had was great and all at a good price! My server Chelsea was super nice and accommodating and let us know her personal favorites, which were really good. The sushi chef was also super nice! Overall I love the new atmosphere and will definitely be coming back!!
Came in and it was really busy but our waitress quickly sat us at the bar , we got to watch the sushi chefs! Good music, the service was fast and friendly and the food was great
2.5 stars if I’m honest. Disappointing. I’ve always had Miyabi 9 an excellent experience in the past, but last night our group of four left disappointed. After being sat, we waited for fifteen minutes before a server asked what we’d like to drink. Not a huge deal, but the servers were just hanging out. We ordered sushi, a bottle of wine and sake. The sake we ordered was out of stock so the server recommended another one. When she delivered it, it was not really comparable — twice the volume and over double the price. Then the wine we ordered was not available either. Kind of annoying when there’s only a few options to choose from. Our food finally came about an hour after we sat. and it was just OK. I was bummed to see that the size of our nigiri was quite small, our rolls were fine but wrong/miscommunication about what we thought we ordered and what was ordered. So we ended up tacking on additional items to get what we wanted, which we paid for. All in all for the amount we spent and what my expectations were going in from previous visits — especially the super slow service, I’ll be hesitant before going again.
Food & staff is awesome ?. Sushi chef Tony over exceeded my expectations. Definitely worthy & fulfilling. I fully recommend going out & giving it try on a date night or mild weekday in the evening. As weekends get highly busy, becuase it's that good.
This place is great, atmosphere is chill & the staff is friendly & attentive. Chelsea provided amazing service & was super delightful. They know what they’re doing & what they’re talking about, & you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food speaks for itself, great options! Will definitely be revisiting often!
Miyabi 9 is one of the best sushi restaurants in Des Moines, if I could rate it 10 stars, I would. The captain crunch roll is delicious, you can’t go wrong with it, the servers are absolutely wonderful, and the atmosphere is perfect for a night out. If you haven’t already, check out Miyabi 9.
