During my BBQ Tour of Kansas City, I decided to make my first ever venture into Iowa to try this legendary local food. For the uninitiated, it is basically a Sloppy Joe without the sauce and instead with ketchup, mustard, and onions. I liked it and even went back to try a 2nd one with cheese. I recommend it because it is something you can't get in many other places and it is good and a good value.
The mall is a warm and inviting place to spend some time and avoid blustery strip plaza parking lots. It's also nicely renovated, making it a great place for this Maid-Rite location. The servings were generous and filling, and the food court is a clean and quiet place to have a meal. Great experience!

Brought a friend for his first time maid rite experience. Cashier was friendly and took our order quickly. Guy preparing the food took a couple minutes to get started because he was on his phone, guess he decided to save time by not washing his hands in between, gross. Food was good, hot, large portion. Left both a cash and suggestion tip (All the germs that go from your face to your phone to your hands to the food can be removed if you’ll just wash your hands properly between the phone and the food prep)
Bryan at the Maid Rite in the Mall in Des Moines provided us with stellar customer service! And his food tasted great. My wife’s first taste of Maid Rite was a the best I could ask for.
