We had reservations for a party of 13 at 7:00pm on a very busy Saturday night. We arrived just a couple of minutes early and our table was ready and waiting. Our waitress couldn't have been any more pleasant and gave us just the right amount of attention. We received our drinks and food very timely and everything was delicious. We would definitely go there again.

This was tonight Thursday 4-21 We came back to Iowa to visit family.I ordered Spaghetti and Meatballs. My wife had the Bone in Prime Rib.The food was of good quality and taste. The order was placed on the phone and was a Pickup order.I was staying in the hotel next door so I walked over to pick up the order.I should have checked the bag as there were multiple shorts on the order. One salads there should have been two and no dressing, no bread. Not sure why the order went out this way so this review may help to improve service.I was considering having my kids come to have dinner here but have reconsidered.Sorry

We stopped here for lunch. We had a cheese burger and portobella steak sandwich. I special ordered my cheeseburger, because I don't like condiments or veggies on the burger. It arrived as ordered and was absolutely delicious. I got it well done. It was done perfectly done with absolutely no charring. My daughter had a small error with her steak sandwich, due to a typo on the new menu. It was rectified immediately and pleasantly. We were offered desert on the house for the inconvenience, but we declined because the generous portions left us completely satisfied. Our waitress Danielle was perfect in every way. For a quiet, upscale meal, I recommend this restaurant.

I was disappointed in the Ribeye meal. The steak was tasty but a little too salty. It was 30% fat and lots of sinue so while I chewed, it did not get smaller. The dinner salad was field of greens and I asked for Caesar dressing, which I found was a $4 up charge on the bill. The greens were not crispy at all and bordered on slimy as it was over dressed. The baked potato was cold and so waxy it was inedible. The fried zucchini was great and abundant. The other two in the party had the scallops & arugula and the filet Oscar which they enjoyed. I'm not sure it was worth the $240 tab, which did include one $12 glass of Chardonnay. Service was slow at 6PM and our appetizer plates, salad plates, and dinner dishes reminded on the table till we got up to leave. I realize it is Des Moines and this is not a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse but there is no excuse for a bad ribeye steak dinner!

There is no better place in West Des Moines for a business meal, romantic getaway, or after work drink. After a string of long and frustrating flights you arrive at The Rewind hotel. You angrily wheel your bags into the room, toss your laptop onto the bed [just enough to make it know you're angry but not enough to break it], and leave the room for Johnny's in the lobby. You walk up to the hostess station with a look that could scare away even the most disgruntled octogenarian and encounter Cienna. Despite you looking like a constipated chihuahua she greets you with with the most welcoming smile and positive attitude you've experiericed in months. You attempt to process the positivity surrounding you as you're lead to a table. You sit down and open the menu instinctively wondering what just happened, and are greeted by one of the many servers who are genuinely there to treat you like a human being. You order a drink, some water, and end up in an actually interesting conversation that lasts five to ten minutes. Which resumes when the drinks are served, before you place an order for an appetizer. All is quiet, albeit a bit lonely, until the appetizer arrives. Don't fret - this is a meal in an of itself. You down some mind-blowing salmon dip or bruschetta, and think your stomach is done. Then the next drink comes. After you grab yourself a negroni or bourbon you're ready for a the main dish. You worry about the cost, but perform mental gymnastics saying the company will pay for it, or that this is a treat to yourself...well it is, and get what you want because you're worth it. There is absolutely no disappointment; every dish is meticulously prepared and comes out the perfect temperature. Your gut swells with the strokes of your fork and everything around you looses meaning. You're full and paid. As you walk past the half-empty bar something calls to you. Your stride meanders to the row of empty chairs. You sit and Wade comes upon you. This is your hardest decision of the night - give orders to a capable bartender, or let that bartender take you on an after-dinner journey. Your results may vary. The journey ends, you begrudgingly stand from your 4-post butt support and stride out of the restaurant toward the elevator or your dino-burning go-kart. You look to your right and Cienna is there, with the same genuine smile wishing you a good night. If you leave this place anything other than feeling appreciated and happy, you have failed in some respect. No other hotel, hotel restaurant, or chain restaurant has made me consistently feel appreciated and welcome like Johnny's @ The Rewind. This place really is the standard in how to treat people like people, and how to cook food on a high level without being pretentious. It's a welcome departure from the $30 slices of avocado and 'fancy-ified' chain restaurant dishes of other hotels.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Husband and I both ordered 6oz filet. He had mashed potatoes and I had the lobster Mac and cheese and both dishes were so good! Hands down worth the money. We will definitely be back. And awesome service

Great place with a nice atmosphere and great steaks. I ordered the Medallion Trio, very recommendable with a nice Malbec.

Used to be place we went to for a good meal on south side. Our waitress was good. Ordered sea food and stake. Surf and turf. 39.00 and got a lobster tail with a speck of lobster and scallops wit 2 steak tenders smaller than half dollars. My birthday an was told free desert. St had to pay 4.00 for it. Last time we will ever set foot in one of these places again. Used to be our go to place. Not no more

We were there for a 30 person birthday party. We had one server, who was great. She had runners... But they left her to do everything.Table setup was not at all thought out. It made our server's life so tough.Menu was fine, and they actually tailored orders more than they said they would, for the limited menu.Johnny's on its own gets a 5 from me. The server gets a 5 on this night. Johnny's for a large party like this...seemed to trend the wrong way towards not separating itself from the chaff.

no question, the best meatloaf. great service, price right (lower tham expected) just a great experience
