Great place. Old supper club feel.
I had never dine here. My girl friend Julie had been there and was very special. I really enjoyed the food and service exceeded our expectations. Very enjoyable.
Dinner was so good I didn't even have any leftovers. 5 stars for that reason. I had the 7oz filet mignon, loaded baked potato, and a salad with their house dressing. I complimented my meal with a absolutely amazing Chocolate Martini (two actually). Overall experience was good. Wait time was very minimal. Was acknowledged as soon as we walked in. Waited around the bar. The place is very small though but everyone managed to find a place to hang out while waiting and enjoying drinks. Another wonderful date night.
The bartender, Joe was great and very funny! The food was so amazing, i had the Cajun shrimp appetizer as a meal with a baked potato, and oh my i was full. I would give 10⭐ s. Definitely worth it.
My boyfriend and I got a take out order from here. The server who took our order was blank faced, and just seemed like she didn’t want to be there. The menu is slightly limited (no big deal, I love steak) We ordered the ribeye and the smaller filet. We got home (2 minutes away) Our smaller filet was very undercooked. Cold pink center when we ordered medium. The ribeye was tough and extremely charred. Our salads were just enough lettuce to cover the bottom of the to go. Not like the good sized side salads we saw coming out of the kitchen while we were waiting for our food. We got two tiny sides of sour cream for our potatoes. overall, not a good experience for take out. Can’t comment on how the service is inside the establishment.
If you want a Des Moines tradition that exemplifies the characteristics of a traditional steakhouse with exceptional classic services. This is your place! From the moment that you walk in, everyone from the bartender, Joe, to the owners greet you like you are a family friend. From the classic made drinks (Manhattanns, old-fashions, and classic martinis) to the open flame grilled steaks, which would rival any of the nations top steak houses, that will change your life without breaking the bank. Jesse's Embers is not just a restaurant but a well earned Des Moines tradition from the 1960's that everyone should enjoy!
The hours now are ridiculous. 8:30p closing time on a weekend; but it is their business and they can certainly do as they please. Would not recommend going close to closing time (within 45 minutes); have been rushed both times by waitresses. Consistently good food though. Fun old-school vibe
The food was ok if you like bland flavors. My wife and youngest son both had steak, good portion, cooked perfectly, but not any seasonings. I had the ribs, they were fall off the bone but left much to be desired as far as flavor. On a positive note my oldest son had the Salmon which he said was awesome!
Great food! Great service! Very nice cozy atmosphere! If you like old fashions, theirs is fantastic!
