Worst experience. I won’t suggest this place at all in Des Moines. I reserved a table for 10 people at 8.45 pm on a weekday and didn't find a waitress till 9.30 pm. Didn’t even get a bread and drinks till 10 pm.We got our food order at 10.15 pm which was their closing time..food quality was very bad..don’t know how it got a 4.7 stars. One of my friends ordered the chicken and prosciutto from pasta menu..she got without chicken. On other item chicken was raw and tofu was uncooked on Tofu Gnocchi.
I make it to Des Moines once or twice per year and Centro is ALWAYS on our dinner list. It is reliably excellent from entry to exit with service and food that we have found to be unparalleled in quality and reliability in Des Moines. We found service in many restaurants in Des Moines to be slow either between the kitchen unable to keep up or too few table staff - not so Centro. And the professionalism of that service is a notch above the others. I had one of the Chef's specials and each in our party of three had something different - all excellent. Their desserts are wonderful as well so save room. Of course we will be back.
This is one of those places that you are glad to know and always a good option to come back. Nice place, very good food and service in a reasonable price. I definitely recommend Centro.
We expected a little more from this restaurant. First, I ordered a Manhattan asked what high end bourbons they had, which was none. The best they had was Makers Mark, I inquired if they knew how to make one, The waitress scoffed and said sure. Well they didn't, No marinated dark cherry and did not taste that good. One in our party ordered veggie burger no bun, Came with the bun anyway. Saw our waitress once after delivery of food. Our appetizers arrived before our drinks or water?? They need some basic training..
Centro is our favorite place for a date night out! This time we realized it was a prom night once we headed downtown and we didn't have a reservation so we weren't sure we could get in. We were able to snag a high top table in the bar and got a front seat view to all the prom-goers out on this rainy night. We lingered for 2 1/2 hour and our waitress was lovely about our lengthy stay. We explained that we don't get out much for date nights and she really put in the work to make it a pleasant experience for us, including taking our picture. We were quiet cold in the bar area but at some point the air was turned off and it was fine after that. My husband's calzone wasn't made quite right and he didn't realize it until after we left and he pulled up the menu on his phone. The receipt shows that our waitress put in the order correctly so it was no fault of hers. All of our food was excellent though, including the cheesecake that we ended with! The restaurant was absolutely packed and we still had a very pleasant experience. Keep up the great ambience and food, Centro!
Centro is such an amazing date night spot. The atmosphere is on point. I go for the bread alone! We ordered the mushroom and cheese appetizer, it was decent. The chicken and prosciutto pasta was recommended and raved about, however, our chicken was way over cooked and pasta was dry overall. They did bring us new chicken which was very good. I will always go back. Highly recommend this place!
Solid 4.6 Star dining experience. I had to really nitpick to find anything wrong with our meal.Our service was excellent. The server explained the menu extensively and worked with us to figure out an alternative to an allergy.We ordered crab cakes and bruschetta to start. Both delicious and packed lots of flavor. The crab cakes, thankfully, had lots of crab, which isn’t always the case here in the Midwest. My only knock on the bruschetta was that it could be cut further. It felt more like a salad than normal bruschetta. Otherwise, it was incredible.For entrées, we ordered the ribeye, Scallops, Beef tenderloin, and the chicken Francese. There wasn’t a single complaint about the dishes in the table.Our beverages were also quite delicious, and this is probably where our complaints come to play. A couple of our cocktails were served with regular ice, which diluted them quickly. I wish they served them with a large cube. Also, our wine did come out after we were almost done with our entrees, but it was a packed Friday evening.That being said, we had a great experience and would recommend Centro to all who live or visit Des Moines!
Awesome experience. Italian pasta and pizza. The free garlic bread is absolutely delicious. One of my favorite places to eat in town. Perfect for lunch or dinner.
We always know we can get a good meal here. It is consistent, it is always good and the menu has a large variety. If you want good Italian this is a must try. Also Monday night the half off pizza and wine is a great deal!
Walked in, waited maybe 35 minutes. Started at the bar for some drinks. Atmosphere was that of a fine dining experience. The staff were excellent and polite. The drinks were made as ordered and quick. The food was absolutely delicious. Waiter was knowledgeable about the entrées and gave recommendations. Amazing spot for dinner with the family or a date with the better half. The steak we ordered was a perfect medium rare, and was honestly one of the best cuts of meat I've had in some time. Will be back next time we are in town.
