I used to love this place. They have been sliding down hill and I think they hit the bottom of that hill and smacked into a brick wall. I know Covid has been hard on places but still. I not sure what’s up with the paper plate, cups and silverware. Almost out of food at what was there had been there for a while and we were there at lunch time. The food all tastes the same and not right. It made me very sad. I will not be back.
Update: After leaving here, my fiance and I both got sick and had explosive bathroom issues as soon as we got home and throughout the rest of the night. DO NOT go here. The food is as sketchy as it gets!!!Came here for my birthday and let me tell you, I was surprised. So the food was very sketchy, especially the chicken water flavored egg rolls or the crab Rangoon that look like someone sat on them, but everything is served on paper plates and red solo cups. Very bizarre. Paying $14 bucks to eat on paper plates with plastic forks puts me at a loss of words. I grabbed a wide variety of things and not a single thing in there seemed cooked right. Half hour later and my stomache starts cramping badly. This place is one food inspection away from being shut down.
We arrived at 7pm and there was almost no food left in the containers. Nothing was being replenished. What was left tasted ok. The soups were burnt to the pans. We had less than half of the normal amount of food to choose from. We were served with plastic silverware, cups, and had the option to use paper plates and bowls for our food. The entire experience was pretty bad. $13.50 is a lot to be scraping the bottom of pans for food. If there is no food left and it is not going to be replenished, it would have been nice to know that before being seated!
Since there are limited choices for good Chinese buffets in the Coralville / Iowa City area, we have tried to like this place. Each time we were hoping that maybe they had a bad day. Our conclusion is that this place is just down right dirty and disgusting. From the bathrooms, to the floors, to the OMG the ice cream freezer - the standards of this is equal to a 3rd world country. I can not believe that the Health Department has not shut them down. We have decided not to ever to go back - in fear of getting a disease.
This place has been one of my favorites for around 20 years. It is still so good! The buffet food is amazing. So much variety. Sushi there is good too. I have never been disappointed with a meal at Peking.
The food was so bad! Crab legs were not eatable! I couldn’t Scrape the meat off shell the little it was! The burners must have been on high, the soup was burnt flavor, asked for mix drink as they have liquor bottles and was only told beer or white wine. The chicken they served had to be 2 day old twice cooked! The ONLY THING was the fried rice that was ok!! Desserts were hard sugar cookies and stale brownies I think!!! I told them it was bad as we left within 15 minutes!! No apologies or reason! Still paid full price! NEVER AGAIN!!!
When they first opened a few year's back it was great service , clean environment and fresh food. I went back a couple of time's, and it just keeps getting worse. They're short staff. The restroom is always dirty. They never have enough food or sushi. If you're lucky enough you can serve yourself one sushi or a plate of food. And wait for another 30 mins or more. To get a decent lunch/dinner. The tables are sticky and the sushi/ grill area is dirty. They definitely need to improve in many things or they will continue to lose customers.
Nice atmosphere.No longer serve hot tea,I request every time I am there.Good tasting food, best at lunch time, supper time it’s been picked over and don’t keep fully stocked food bar.Overall Quality has gone downhill from 2-5 years ago.
My experience at this restaurant was absolutely horrible. I arrived to the front door, and there was trash, laying by the door. A half eaten sandwich, and cigarette butts at the entrance. The food was also horrible, and the waitress was rude, and ungrateful that I didn't leave a tip. I paid the bill, and immediately left.....the floors where filthy and we were served with plastic disposable cups, paper plates, and plastic eating utensils. I do not recommend eating at this establishment, and I wouldn't return to eat there again....On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this one a negative -5.
Great selection, fresh, delicious. Great service. Only 3 stars because they do not provide tools to crack crab shells with, nor do they split them for customers so we couldn't eat them. What a waste! I didn't mind paper plates snd plastic utensils if they were sturdier.
