We went to whiskey river by uner and couldn’t get an uber for a ride back to our hotel. One of the staff actually gave us a ride to make sure we were safe! This place is always going to be number one on our list to come back to. Not to mention the Mexican nachos were the bomb! Thank you all so much, especially for the ride home. I won’t mention her name but she knows who I’m talking about. Good luck in college, you are an amazing young lady!
This is a cool place to play some pool and have a drink or two, but forget having even a "hello" with anyone around. The music is so loud one could sue for hearing loss.Bring your own noise canceling headphones and music. You'll be forced to listen to whatever some random person plays at a decibel which makes hearing the lyrics impossible.
Outstanding service. My friends and I had Mallory as a server. I’m not going to lie, Mallory might be the best person I’ve ever met. She was amazing. I’m going to come back here and ask for Mallory every time!
I love whiskey river so much! The bartenders and servers are such amazing people! You are really taken care of here and it feels like everyone watches over everyone! My friends get upset with me, but won’t go to any other bars!!!
Good atmosphere, pretty decent food. I've been here a handfull of times and stopped in for a beer this evening and it was 7 bucks poured in a smaller 12oz draft glass. Bartender was helpful in selecting a sour beer I requested. However, my price tolerance is not going to allow me to return...7 dollar 12 Oz craft beer draft, no thankyou.
I worked there and they over work all their staff, they would close at two and we wouldn’t even go home till 5-6 am because of cleaning. We would work over 10 hours some days and got get breaks at all.A lot of their staff is underage and they drink on the job as well. They don’t care if you have any personal life or problems going on. They just want you there working. They just want your money and to make everything they can from their employees.
Nope. Strike 1, had to step over food and puke to get in because it was not cleaned up. Strike 2, LOUD music-way too loud for any conversation. Strike 3, had to seat ourselves and nobody came to greet or take orders even after we were looked at. Customers were drunk and loud, loud vulgar language and staff was going along with it. Poor staff and extremely poor management. Will never come close to this place. If I had a business even close, I'd be on their case. Absolutely appaling. Couldn't walk out fast enough. Don't want to give 1 star but I have to give a rating.
This place has seriously gone downhill…. Food dry, management really terrible! Drinks not good…. Sad, used to be our favorite place. Also, sad to say it is dirty, run down, seats are torn. Doesn’t match high end Ankeny! I tried to have my aweful drink written off… that was a no… the manager blamed me for ordering it. This may be the only terrible place in Ankeny!
We arrived @ the start of the business day, (11am). We tried to find a table which was not easy. It looked like the place hadn't been cleaned from the last night, spills & foods on most tables. I had to ask someone to wipe a spot down for us, 4 guests. Our waiter was attentive I. The beginning, got our drinks promptly & took our food order, (4 salads). We waited for a hour for our food, finally having to ask another server about our orders. Orders came out around 5 minutes later after we noticed other people getting their food. Salads were decent. Large portions of lettuce but crispy chicken looked to be re cooked & crispy crisp. Friend who was gluten free & made it known, still received bread on her plate. Paid around $16 for meal & drink (soda). All in all, this was my 1st time eating in this establishment & I probably wouldn't go back.
Big selection and fair prices, variety of locals and travelers all treated well. Burgers are great and portions are filling. Just save room for a whiskey!
