This is my go-to every time we visit Iowa! Love the variety of wing sauce, Spinach dip & chips.The personal sized pizza dish is the best!
Be mindful of the pasta as I heard of an incident where one of the managers (assistant, possibly) was arguing with kitchen staff that it was okay to serve 10 day old pasta. It was about 6 days past its 'serve by' date. He 'allegedly' said, "It's still good." Apparently three other staff witnessed this. Just be mindful there are issues getting supplies occasionally (not their fault) but this wasn't a supply issue. I had a few bites of their pizza once and it was pretty good.
Was a little disappointed with our food. We ordered big breadsticks with cheese. Don't know what happened but they tasted burnt. My grandson ordered a cheese burger but it didn't have cheese when it came out. The real stinger was that when the manager to see how we were doing we stated we were waiting awhile for our food. He snapped back "We're making it as fast as we can." He asked us so why snap at a customer. Our waitress was new and did her best. She did a nice job. Left her with a very nice tip. First time at this location and should have been a clue when not many people in the restaurant on a Saturday. This location has a limited menu (nationwide??) Ordered pizza with cauliflower crust. Was asked if I wanted the crust as thin, ale, or thick. Questioned the bartender if cauliflower crust now came with options. Was told yes, so I ordered thin. Pizza did not have cauliflower crust but regular thin crust. Fortunately I don’t have celiac disease. Bartender also didn’t know about the beers. Asked for a porter or stout. He asked someone else sitting at the bar for help. Same with dining partner who wanted red or brown ale. Less on tap options than other locations (result of pandemic??) Seems chain has been going downhill since being purchased by SPB Hospitality. Can’t even check rewards on line for about two years. Always has the message “Pardon our construction, new updates are on the way!” - WHEN? After 20 some years, we’re done.
My husband and I, have patronized this restaurant many times in past. we were seated immediately, server took and served drink order .We both ordered a salad and after 40 min no salads, server hadn't returned to table can't imagine how long it would take to get a pizza. Advised manager got up left. This restaurant is one that thinks its ok to serve a salad at the same time they bring out hot main courses
The food was good but the service was ridiculous. We had to seat ourselves and waited 20 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us. Then after we ate it took another 29 minutes to get our check. I will not be going back
Thought my family and I would try something new as we have never been to Old Chicago. Walked in stood for 5-7 min which is ok expect that. One young lady who was hosting and bussing said she would be back. Took maybe another 3-4 min and another waiter (Jeff I believe was his name) asked if we had been helped. I let him know that someone in a yellow shirt stated she would be back. The waiter took off left us standing there. Came back and said something along the line of "We just put out a new menu today and we are out of half of everything which isn't very good and people have been waiting for an hour." "We are not trying to deteriorate you away we just though you should know!" "Try coming back some other time..When saying something to the hostess about what the waiter stated she just stood there and the waiter let her know they where out of half of everything. As a hostess she should have known what was going on in the kitchen. Place wasn't even that busy.As a person who worked food we should have been told what was available not that "we are out of half the food" so then we could have decided if we wanted to stay. Not even sure if it worth trying to go back.
They were short staffed. Only offered pizza and appetizers off the menu. Took more that 15 minutes to be waited on, and they weren't that busy.The pizza we ordered had so much garlic, it was nearly inedible. Only gave 3 stars, because I gave them a break for being short staffed. Would have been 1 star. Probably won't be coming back.
