I have been here multiple times and never had a meal I could finish. I have been sent out the soggiest onion rings that hadn't even goldened up or had any crispiness to them whatsoever and was told by the server that that is how their O-rings are. Sad. Heard this from a friend as well. Also, I am a burger guy and have tried them a couple times, since somehow they get nominated for best burger in Iowa, and each time it has been so bland and rubbery that I just can't eat it. I am not mad I just would prefer to spend my money elsewhere.
Been here quite a few times and this is probably my last. Girlfriend had a chicken pasta dish that looked and tasted like you could have heated it up out of a can at home. Burgers are very blah and service is always slow. Not stereotyping but college students more interested in talking than checking in on tables even a time or two. Go the couple miles east and get something way better.
Went here while staying for my sons visit to Iowa State. Eat here both nights. Food was great as well as the service
Good place to sit at the bar rail, but anywhere else service will suck at a table. Food is okay, but if you order late the food will likely sit for a while until it's bright to you after the kitchen closes so if it's wrong or cold you can't order new. Bartenders are always great though.
Great place to watch March Madness! We are in for the tournament from Georgia and this was right next to our hotel. Giving it a solid A for the food…get the corn bites! I ordered salmon and veggies and it was really good! Our waitress was great, service was spot on and TV’s everywhere. We’ll be back after the game to order the exact same thing and sit in the same spot! Go Dawgs!
We were looking forward to trying this while in west Ames, and even had a discount coupon from an Ames HS fund-raiser. Unfortunately, the hostess was not particularly friendly; restaurant was cold (it was Feb. but it would have been nice to eat without coats); I was told I could have any side instead of fries, then was charged $2 for getting a simple salad. Prices are high, but that is happening everywhere. Portion sizes were not impressive.
I rarely write one star reviews for places because I understand things sometimes happen, and not everything may be perfect. That's fineIn this case, it was the combination of weak drinks and bad food lathered in a sauce of astonishingly awful service that makes me think West Towne Pub genuinely deserves no more than one star. The drinks were essentially homeopathic (when they eventually got there), the food clearly came from a bag (and more likely Sam's Club than Costco), and all the server wanted to do was end her shift. Then, just to complete the experience, the bathroom was apparently out of order so a prior customer's handiwork was now permanently on display there.I see no reason to ever visit this place again and would recommend you also skip it. Ames has decent pubs. This is not one of them.
I came here right after work, by myself, as it was on the way home. I was seated immediately. I also had a waiter immediately and I already knew I wanted a double cheeseburger. I found the menu didn't offer one. So I had a patty added which was no problem. I began reading reviews while I waited. I started to worry with all the bad reviews recently. Especially with complaints about dry, cold, or soggy burgers. BUT, I found my double burger to be amazing akin to a burger you'd find the same taste at a steak house. Now considering I had to add a patty I would agree the portions are a little small and fries could of been a larger portion. I would also like to see a different fry option like steak fries to compliment the flavor of burger I loved. That being said my burger tasted so good I will leave this at 4/5 stars
Food was ok. Took 40 minutes to get 2 burgers when they weren’t busy. Got 1/2 appetizers instead of fries, and for $3 got three jalapeño poppers. Very disappointed for $32 with water. Will not be back.
Great specials and delicious rib egg rolls.
