We drove from northeast Iowa through Ames on our way to Des Moines for the Senior Iowa Games. We are Iowa Staters so decided to have lunch in Campus Town and looked for the Thai restaurant. Instead we found Little Tai Pei so went inside. It is quite in need of renovation but we ordered food anyway. The servers were friendly and the older woman was “motherly,” said my husband. He enjoyed his lemon chicken, which was moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside, instead of soggy. I liked my chicken lo mein with chunks of bok choy and chicken. We agreed that the tiny eggrolls were so flavorful with ginger that we did not need sauce. The older server moved us to a different table because the original one was tippy, after I spilled water on the table. I then had a good view of the paper product restaurant supplies, which should be stored elsewhere if possible. The cups were styrofoam and the plates ceramic, and the silverware was mismatched metal but sturdy. They were generous with the paper napkins, which was good.
We went for dinner and it was pretty quiet inside. Most people opted for take out. The parking lot is a little small, but the food was good. The price was low. The service was extremely friendly and quick and the place was clean. I definitely recommend if you're looking for some quick, affordable, and good tasting Chinese food. :)
The lady at the counter was rude and didn't want to help me. They didn't have enough rice or shrimp in my order and the egg rolls are not the normal size. They where too small. I will never come to this place again. The owner was very nice to me.
Very cozy and comfortable place! It has been my go-to place when I was in Iowa State to take a short walk from Black Engineering and grab a quick lunch. 8 years later when I visited again, the owner has changed but the food is still great!
Had the best food I've ever had from there last night. I've been eating there for over ten years. Great job. See you again soon.
I ordered the General Tso’s chicken combo. I like spicy food so I was a little disappointed when it wasn’t very spicy. But if you don’t like spicy I think this would be the place for you.All prices are listed with tax included so I paid what the menu price said which was pretty nice. The staff was nice and they wore masks and handled everything professionally. They also have their own parking but it’s very limited so I had to park on the street and pay a meter.
Little Taipei is a cozy place with great prices, great food, and beyond friendly staff. My beef noodle soup was great, and much needed on a chilly midwest evening. The seating area was nice, and I felt very attended to by the staff members. They have a simple order-at-the-counter system which makes dining really easy and fun.Highly recommend if you are in the Campustown area!
I used to ear here 25 years ago and thought I would try it while back in town. I won't give it a single star since I didn't get sick or anything. But it may have been some of the most mediocre Asian food I have had in years. Oh well.
Overall pretty mediocre food. Got mapo and fried rice, both had little to no flavor. Wouldn't recommend this place over other local restaurants nearby.
Definitely the best American Chinese food I’ve ever had. Very delicious and a very good price.
