Slow service because the owner is the server, bartender, and chef running a solo operation. Once your food does come though, it’s phenomenal. Well worth the wait for such great flavors. Plus the atmosphere is really vibrant and the owner is super nice.My suggestion is call ahead to order your food to alleviate the wait time, but this is a must try in Ames.

Excellent atmosphere and customer services, the owner was fun to be around and I had an interesting covo with him.Hidden gem and the people in town are super frient, food are made with the best produces quality & mass from scratchMy dinner was delicious, fish sandwich & rice n beans + yucca n potatoes and shredded beef.I'll definitely stop by again if I'm happen to be in Town the Most High Almighty Ahayah willing. Thanks

I knew from the reviews that I was in for a wait, but the reviews didn't really prepare me for what actually happened. We went here on a Friday. There was one other customer in the restaurant so we sat down and waited. About 20 minutes later we had still not been acknowledged. The owner looked out from the backroom at least twice in that time, but made no effort to even welcome us. All I was looking for was the owner to say something like "I'm cooking this guy's meal, then you're next". If he'd had offered to take our drink order while we wait even better. Even a "hi" would have gone over better. By ignoring us it made us feel like our business was not valued. But instead, after 20 minutes, we had no idea if we were even going to get served. For all we knew there were 10 EatStreet orders ahead of us, or if the owner was closing up after the current customer. Heck, we didn't even know if that that customer had been helped yet.Maybe we missed out on a once in a lifetime culinary experience, but at this point we just left.

This place is amazing. It is one of the best if not the best restaurants in Ames. Service is slow, you can call ahead, it is worth the wait. Great vibe inside. This place needs to be more popular.

I wish I'd known about this place sooner. The food is delicious and the portions are very very generous. I liked the cozy ambience, and the gentleman who cooked and served the food was very nice. Never eaten Colombian food before but am now a fan. I'd highly recommend coming here.

Food was amazing! It took a little longer than usual because LaVish was a one man show. It was worth the wait. He suggested we order ahead and can eat in and it would be hot and ready when we get there.

So it should be noted that the wait times are long, and I post this at the beginning of the review for the same reason I dont include it in the 5 star rating and that's because I knew that going in so I'm not going to count that against it. The main reason for the long waits is because the owner is the singular chef, waiter, and bartender so hes running the whole show.Onto the review, man does this man know how to cook, I asked him to give me whatever he thinks is good and what was put before me was a ticket to flavor town. I dont normally like beans and rice but I ate every bite. The pork chop I got was beautiful and flavorful, and my girlfriend who dosent like pork even liked it. The traditional music serenaded me on my food coma afterwards since I couldnt stop eating. In short, long wait but it's worth it.

The food and atmosphere are outstanding. one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The wait was to be expected, but it was well worth it for the food
