A Valparaiso original, hence the name. Haha! This Ice Cream is the best no matter what kind You get. I have been eating this brand since I was a kid. The Wife and I just went to get some shakes over the fourth of July weekend and I saw that They had Dreamsicle flavor, My absolute favorite! I highly recommend that everyone should try this place and see what You think. Mmmmmmmm!
Been in twice so far and the ice cream flavors are absolutely delicious and refreshing! This place is very popular at lunchtime and hot afternoons! We ordered some sandwiches and they were also so very good! Drop in and try for yourself how good their ice cream is! They have a large selection of ice cream in addition to a wide variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads!

The butter pecan was amazing! It wasn't too sweet. My family also enjoyed superman, blue moon, and mint chip. Can't wait to try the other flavors!

The Valpo Velvet Ice Cream Shoppe in Valparaiso, Indiana, dates to the founding of Brown's Dairy in 1899. Herbet "Herb" J. Brown founded the Valpo Velvet Ice Cream Company in 1947 and the first Valpo Velvet ice cream shoppe debuted in 1997. It's a "Mom and Pop" business that has been owned and operated by the Brown family for 123 years. Located at 55 Monroe Street, a block west of Washington Street, west of Valparaiso University, it is open from 11 to 8 Monday through Thursday and 11 to 9 on Friday and Saturday. The extensive menu includes 60 flavors of ice cream, six flavors of sherbet, sorbet, frozen yogurt, soups, salads, 19 different sandwiches shakes, malts, ice cream sodas, ice cream floats, old-fashioned phosphates, sundaes, ice cream bars, ice cream sandwiches and frozen chocolate bars. Something for everyone. And plenty of it. Which ice cream flavor do you prefer--banana chocolate chip, banana creme, black raspberry chip, black walnut, butter pecan, butterscotch ripple, chocolate almond, chocolate chip cookie dough, cinnamon spice, coconut cream, cookies and cream, egg not, peach, praline pecan, spumoni, strawberry or vanilla fudge ripple? Or maybe lemon, lime pineapple, orange, rainbow or raspberry sherbet? The list of sandwiches includes grilled chicken, grilled corned beef and Swiss cheese, grilled ham and cheddar and Reuben. But the signature item is the Velvet sub with ham, turkey, salami, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and house vinaigrette baked on a sub roll. When was the last time you sampled a phosphate? After considerable debate, my wife and I indulged in scoops of butterscotch ripple, vanilla fudge ripple, cinnamon spice and praline pecan ice cream. And I took a Velvet sub with me for a late-night snack.

A lot of people don't know this but this is one of the best places in Valpo for a great sandwich or salad! Always went here for the ice cream and found a few years back they serve food. All home made breads and great sandwiches. Try the Big Sur!!!
