I don't make it out to the Valparaiso area very often, so I wasn't sure what was good in the area. Found The Dish through a Google search and it had good reviews.First, the food, cause that's what I was there for. I had the Asian Chicken Salad and it was very good. Price was fair, good size serving of the veggies, but a little light on the chicken. I think it had 4 small pieces, probably wouldn't even equal a whole chicken breast. I cut the pieces up and spread it around so it worked out ok.Other members of my party ordered a beet salad and a panini. Both enjoyed their meals, said it was good.4 and not 5 stars because the salad I ate could have used more chicken, and when we ordered tea, the server did not mention it was flavored. One person liked it and the other did not. This is a nit-picky issue, not a reason to not eat there because the food is good.I would eat here again!
1st time ordering at this restaurant. Sesame chicken, too expensive for the quality. I slice of a mushroom which should have been a lot of mushrooms like the picture. Mashed potatoes...not fluffy or tasty. Ginger was sushi ginger. Weird. I thought it was going to be ginger sauce. The sauce was just ok. Very disappointing. No soup or salad with a $25 meal.
Ask for the dessert menu to start!! Then decide your main course! The food is terrific and the service is better. Wine list offers a reasonable selection at practical price points. The crab cakes are wonderful, salads are plentiful, and the entrees are well prepared. We stopped in late afternoon and the full menu was available. Highly recommend crème brûlée, cheesecake and bread pudding!
We had the pork belly appetizer which was fantastic and shared the Spanish Mackerel with whipped feta cheese - tremendous. Great flavors.Good drinks and excellent service!
Great food and friendly attentive service. Samantha was a charming server.

Wonderful lunch....perfect decorations for the holidays to enjoy with friends!
I recently was visitingValpo and had hoped to dine at The Dish. Sadly, I was very disappointed. The establishment was closed and having a private event, which I could have just chalked up to a simple mistake on my part. The part that truly disappointed me was how my group was treated upon entering the restaurant. There was no sign indicating that a private event was taking place which obviously would have been the best solution to keep people from interrupting someone else's special event. Then as staff approached us instead of politely explaining the situation, she gestured emphatically to get us to leave the restaurant.Obviously everyone was staring and it created unnecessary embarrassment. So now instead of trying to schedule a different time to try this business I feel very apprehensive to return at all.
Great crab cakes and shrimp!
