My little girl and myself. I had the eggplant parm, she had the kids spaghetti. Our plates were heaping, we had to take some home but it was great the nest day as well. It's close to home so we make make this a regular spot. The service was excellent. We were well taken care of but not to the point of being interrupted while we dined. I wish I'd gotten the servers name so I could give her a personal shout out..thanks!

Great Giorno is a local Italian restaurant in Terre Haute. The restaurant is in an old bank. The original vault and the teller windows are still in the building. You can reserve the bank vault for a more private dining experience. The owner was in the building and greeted us personally when we entered. He was interested in speaking with us and spoke with us about how he got into the culinary arts and ended up in Terre Haute. He told us all of his chefs are actually trained chefs and not just someone off the street. Owner, Chef Jimmy, assured us that his intent is to take care of his customers. The food was very good. There were only two rolls brought out to the table. Initially I thought this was odd, but after realizing these aren't your typical yeast rolls you get at a chain restaurant, I understood. These rolls are dense and heavy. They were a welcomed change to normal dinner rolls.Chef Jimmy had mentioned that the restaurant goes through approximately 600 lbs of chicken a week. I thought that was a very large amount. However when I saw what my buddy got as a serving for his chicken Parm, I could totally see why. The serving was massive. Definitely enough to share. The chicken was cooked well and had great flavor.I ordered the seasonal dish, shrimp and scallop linguini. It came in a marsala sauce and had a very slight kick of heat to it. The sweetness of the marsala sauce paired nicely with the spice. The shrimp were slightly overdone and a little on the chewy side, but the flavor was excellent.Chef Jimmy let me know his wife bakes the baklava herself, so naturally I had to try some. It was very good. The outside wasn't as flaky as some I've tried, but all in all, a good baklava. We didn't notice any sort of sewer smell while there. It's also difficult to get good help and I'm sure there is quite a bit of turnover waiting tables regardless of the restaurant, so knowledge of the menu may be a tough subject to grade the staff on. I can tell you Chef Jimmy knows his menu as he and I talked about what to order at length. In the end, Great Giorno Italian Cuisine was a refreshing and tasty experience. I would definitely return again. Thanks, Jimmy!

Always amazing service and food!!! It's a must try!!! Fresh hot bread, dipping sauce amazing and the food is always consistent.

The entrance to the restaurant is a little funky and has a lingering sewer smell. Our waiter was not well trained and could only do one thing at a time after a few reminders. My husband loved his spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs. I wanted to try their seafood pasta specialbut, without a red sauce. I asked about a white wine sauce but got alfedo instead. Was disappointed in our overall first experience. Will try one more time but not too soon.

Had the spinach ravioli and a side salad. Enjoyed a great meal at a cozy location. Service was prompt and friendly!!!

The appetizers and bread were great. However, the steak entree & kids chicken tenders were absolutely disgusting. The tenders were so hard I could hardly pull it apart, my child definitely was not eating that. We were the only table in the restaurant, so it wasn’t like the kitchen was slammed either. I Would not recommend for a meal, only bread and appetizers. I will say that our waiter was very nice though.

My husband and I came in for lunch, as our other restaurant choice was not open. We were greeted and sat at a booth by the window. We asked if we could have a different seat because of the big air draft. They moved us one table back and that wasn't any better so we asked to move to the table directly beside us. Server had attitude but let us move.I had their version of Chicken Lemone, (chicken with white wine, butter, lemons and capers) the sauce was a cream sauce, not a fan. My husband had Linguine and claims. The sauce on this should have been a white wine and oil sauce but instead it was creamy with cheese mixed in. Normally it is served with the claims cooked and still in their shell, this was not. They shelled the claims and mixed all together, there was hardly any claims in the bowl, mostly all pasta. Also there was a strong sewer smell when you walked in the front door. I will not waist my money combing back here. I will go to Pilonis where the past is hand made fresh everyday and the food is prepared correctly and where we feel like family !!!!

Delicious food and fabulous service! The chicken parmesan was way more than I could eat in one sitting but it was so tasty! I also recommend the tiramisu!

I guess I should have taken my hint for this place from the empty parking lot. The one and only server particularly rude from the onset. I ordered the linguine with white clam sauce. My wife ordered the chicken with lemon, capers, and white wine (chicken picatta"...at least that is what it what was supposed to be. Both dishes were served in a basically flavorless white sauce. Typical white clam sauce is more brothy with lots of garlic, onions and wine. The "clams" were almost non existent and again flavorless. Had it not been for the salt and pepper on the table, it would have had absolutely no flavor. On the positive, the bread, broccoli soup and merlot wine were pretty good.Overall, an expensive bread, soup, and wine meal.Had Piloni's down the street been open, they were my first choice and would have been well worth every penny.Needless to say, I won't be coming back to the allegedly "Great Giorno" Italian restaurant.

I was pleasantly surprised that they had gluten-free pasta. My waitress was so sweet but wasn't aware of what items on the menu were dairy-free or gluten-free so we had a relay race going with the kitchen. The food was really good once it was sorted out, though my wait was over an hour to get the meal.
