This restaurant met my three criteria for a "five star" review: good food, good atmosphere and good service. I would highly recommend and will be returning soon. The menu is somewhat limited, so check it out before dining to make sure it matches what you're seeking.
Me and my 4 friends, who are all seniors at Notre Dame and 21 to 22 years old, were denied from this bar for not having an ID from Michigan or Indiana that was 25 or more years old. We came here at about 8pm after going to some other establishments in south bend on a senior year celebration bar crawl. We had no trouble anywhere else but at this bar, they took a quick look at one of the five peoples IDs and immediately said that the whole group was not allowed in, and would not accept us trying to show multiple other forms of ID to confirm our age. Just an interesting way to run a bar in a downtown area near a college… being strict on fake IDs is one thing, but not letting anyone in who is under 25 because you don’t have someone on staff who can tell a real ID from a fake ..? Would give 0 stars if I could
I’ve been here three times now and have yet to have a good experience. They not only have an interesting dress code including not allowing individuals to wear Durags, plains white shirts, sweatpants and open toed shoes but have also turned us away for having an out of state license. Interesting way to run a business
Have yet to enjoy this bar. I first went here after moving to South Bend and was asked to show three valid forms of IDs which was not asked of any other patron in our group. Since going back they have changed their policy to not allow anyone under 25. Additionally the staff has added a targeted dress code which is "interesting" to say the least. I wish the staff the best of luck as I've heard nothing but good things about this bar so it has been incredbily dissapointing to have these experiences.
I tried to come here for my best friends 22nd birthday party, and they told me that we couldnt get in because we were not 25+. I can assure you that we will never be back, as the owner of this bar clearly does not want young or diverse vibrant individuals at this bar. I am truly ashamed, especially considering we are in downtown South Bend, which is typically very accepting to diverse individuals. Shame on you Madison Oyster Bar.
A great place to go for food and drinks with friends! This is a real staple in South Bend. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's glad they are back in business. I can't imagine South Bend without Madison Oyster Bar.

Owner/bartender could not have been more pleasant. Raw oysters were delicious as well as a hamburger cooked beautifully.
This bar needlessly requires you to jump through hoops if you come from out of state. Incredibly frustrating and needless
Absolutely amazing food, SERVICE WAS EVEN BETTER!! We were upstairs and our server was up qnd down the stairs over 20 times for just our table. .I have served for years and she was the top shelf.
