I just have to share how jacked up this is. I order the Mickey burger (Which comes with fries) I told them I would like onion rings instead of fries, no problem....I get my bill and it has 6.00 charge for onion rings ...I went up to pay for my food and mentioned it and they said ..Yeah you see that .50 credit ? That was for not getting the fries. OMG ARE YOU KIDDING ME .I loved this place and never thought they did business like this. lost my business today
I've always loved the burgers. Clearly, that is the best thing they do. However, there are a couple of items I tried that I did not find satisfying. Biscuits & Gravy are my go-to when it comes to breakfast and I've tried many different restaurant's offerings. The gravy here has a hint of bitterness, for lack of a better word, and I won't be ordering them again. Recently, I had a craving for Chicago dogs so I tried theirs. There was a hint of a strange flavor I couldn't pin down. It was enough to give me a poor experience. Also, if those are pickles they sure don't taste like it. They are more like cucumber. How does one not know that Chicago dogs have dill pickle spears? The tomatoes were pale and the sport peppers were small pieces. That's another item I won't buy again. Looks like I'll stick with the hamburgers.
Didn't know the meals come with fries now, so fun surprise! Good food. I had the tuba melt, comes with American not swiss cheese. Our server was nice & took care of us well.
Visited in Aug 2021 during COVID, so I appreciate that staffing was probably tough to find. That said, the service was slow, the food was underwhelming and oversalted, and the experience was disappointing even for diner standards. I wouldn't return.
Fresh food, hot and fast. They have a great atmosphere and it's worth the time to eat here. The staff is great, friendly and "on" it.
I was really excited to try Schoop's for the first time. The food was just okay. We liked the flavor of the burgers, but the service was poor. The whole place just seemed like it was run by teenagers and needs to be managed better. I went inside and bought a milkshake and a few burgers to-go. We went on the later side, so it didn't seem like there was a huge dinner rush happening. The bill ended up being over $60... Definitely too pricey. After I finished paying, the young girl at the front said "oh yeah it'll be like 30+ minutes". This was surprising - I definitely wasn't expecting that long of a wait, and I felt she should have communicated that information before I finished paying. But nonetheless, we sat down and waited. Despite telling me the food would take 30+ minutes, I noticed an employee made the milkshake right away and just left it sitting behind the counter, melting, waiting for our food. Pretty silly to make the shake first, and even sillier to leave it out without even coming over a few feet to hand it to us. Overall the food and experience wasn't worth the money (I literally got like 10 fries with my burger). We definitely won't be returning.
Schoops is one of the top burgers in the state. I know they are only in the Region but hear me now and believe me later definitely top of burgers in Indiana. I will compare it to Workingmans Friend burgers but about twice the size. Along with the taste. You wanna open a successful burger joint. Someone please open one down around the Indianapolis area...Hendricks County even better. Not just saying this because this was my 1st job in high school. Mmmm everyday I'd eat one or two. The homies knocking at the back door in Highland and i take out a sack of burgers with fries. Some reason we was always hungry. Miss you big homie SGT D. RIOS and love you.
Food is usually on point. Staff is like family there. My personal favorite is the pork tenderloin sandwich with irish nacho fries.
I haven't been to a Schoop's in more than a decade (18 years, if memory serves). I must say that my experience with the Portage IN location was most excellent! Food came fast and hot! The burgers were considerably larger and better than I remember, though a little over cooked for my tastes, but delicious none the less. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. I also had the Spit Pea Soup with ham (soup of the day) which was superb. The onion rings were prepared as perfectly as possible, hot, crisp on the outside, tender onion on the inside. Lastly, the Peanut Butter and Banana milk shake was just...??????. Our server was equally great and saw to all our requests promptly.Thank you for a great experience!
