We had a very strange experience at Matey’s today. We arrive, the main level isn’t crowded at all. Maybe 5 people in the bar area and 4 tables have people in the deck area. Hailey is our server and we order food and appetizers. The appetizers come out in 5 minutes but the fish sandwich never came out despite Hailey coming to the table 9 times with a odd story each time. She said the kitchen needed our patience but it was coming. 30 minutes later, the fish tacos arrive that I ordered but still no fish sandwich. Hailey said it was accidentally given away but would be out shortly, guess what it never came out. She came out and gave us a bill minus the sandwich. My husband asked if he was going to get the sandwich and she said unfortunately no. No further explanation, that’s it, no sorry for wasting your time, just unfortunately no sandwich. We waited a total of 1.5 hours for food and didn’t even get all of it. I really liked them in the past, but I’ll never go back.

If you want to go to a unique place that sits right off of Lake Michigan then visit this. The food is always tasty and they even made us our own Cherry Cokes. We love coming here!

Great joint, they key west of the Midwest. We had good service, good drinks, and great food. We will be going back and i recommended that you do too.I will say when it's busy it's a little rough because the whole world is understaffed right now.

When going to Michigan City stopping at Mateys is a must! The food is good and their drinks are great!! The view is just wonderful!

The atmosphere was good, waitress was super nice and really took care of us! Fish & chips and shrimp were very good, I was expecting more of a variety of fish on the menu! There were no fish options that weren't breaded...

My wife and I both had the prime rib dinner with a lobster tail! Yummo, the food was delicious, and the service was great! We will be back!

An absolute gem in Michigan City!I would have never expected that an impromptu stop would be serving deliciously prepared food! Salad was fresh! Pork chops were perfectly seasoned and cooked within just a shade of pink...!Service was exceptional! Granted, my dog and I were the only customers there, however, Jen and the entire staff made us feel so welcome we felt right at home!Eventually, a few more customers walked in and I noticed the service was just as excellent!Thank you Mateys for making this weary traveller feel welcome!

Not for families! We went to Matey’s with our two toddlers. Despite the fact that there were so few customers actually at the restaurant, we were told we could only sit in the very small “family section” on the rooftop. That would have been fine but it was a very sunny day and not one of the tables were in a shaded area and no umbrellas were provided. There was only one other couple sitting in the entire downstairs level but we were told we had to sit in the hot sun with two kids. We felt we were penalized for having children as we were relegated to an unshaded dining area. Won’t be going back!

Awesome stop for lunch heading heading from Grand Rapids to Chicago never been to your town. Food was delicious we had the lobster roll and crab cakes. I would highly recommend
