The male servers are always very nice, personable and provide quick service. I only say male servers because I don't think I ever had a female server there. Delicious food and the mango margarita is fabulous ???
Just had dinner last night at La Carreta and unfortunately had a bad experience. All 5 of us ordered the carne asada plate and what we got was not skirt steak. This substitute was tough and fatty. When we brought it to the attention of the manager, his excuse was a new employee but never rectified the “mistake” or apologized. Sorry not going back.
Easy location off of I 65 and or route 30 in Merriville Indiana. If you enjoy Mexican atmosphere or that Mexican style Cantina you’ll love this place. The food is top-of-the-line, the bartenders know what they’re doing when it comes to making a good cocktail . It’s one of those places that I would recommend to any of my friends. We have stopped here 3 times for dinner after monthly shopping trips...Alot of retail options in close proximity...much better pricing than in Chicago or even the burbs. Gas at Costco is routinely $1.50 less than Lincoln Park area...so, that alone covers the trip south.The Restaurant is well rated and we decided to give it a try. It is in a strip center that has a traffic light, so access is easy from the very busy 6 lane highway. They are always very busy at dinner time, and we have twice waited 15 to 20 min for seating.The Menu is extensive. The staff are polite and very busy, yet check back often. There is a separate bar, which is also usually full of people eating. The atmosphere is authentic and cute. We often see large family groups eating in the center of the restaurant.The chips, salsa and guacamole are all made fresh. The food is fresh and tasty. They use fresh Jumbo Shrimp in the Shrimp Tacos. Everything that we have tried had been very good.It is extremely loud and hard to hold a conversation. Everything is very tight trying to weave between tables to reach the restroom or cashier. Go for the food, but don't expect a relaxing or romantic dining experience.
Que Bueno.Everything about La Carreta is great. The atmosphere, the staff, the drinks and especially the food. Been a mainstay in the area for awhile now. Well worth the stop for drinks and some excellent Mexican food.

Very, very service oriented and some of the food is really good and some of it is so so. I ordered the ribeye steak which was supposedly 10oz. Well, it was very thin and grisselly and the meat was tough and it tasted like salmon. I don't think it was a coincidence that my son ordered broiled salmon, but they said that the steak was not cooked in the same grill that the salmon was, even though the steak both smelled and tasted exactly like the salmon my son had. But here's the thing... they made it right. They took my thin, tough, chewy grisselly salmon flavored ribeye back and brought me a Carne asada which was fabulous and the costumer service was above and beyond. Thank you and I'll likely be back.
Love this place … but need to remember to order the smallest drink ..any other size when your out if practice can actually get you drunk … lol .. just kidding … wink - wink
I give this positive recommendation, only based on past experiences which have been much better. This last visit was quite different. It took about an hour to get our food, which was piping hot and enjoyable; however, by the time our food arrived, the two of us had almost consumed two baskets of chips, served warm and delicious. Because we desired our main entrees, we left uncomfortably full. Maybe this is attributed to what is taking place across the country, short cook staff. We'll try again, but will give it some time.
I only gave it 4 stars because the service was very slow. I know the place was packed but however service could’ve been a little faster. The food was great also but they took to long giving us a plate so it was not to perfection but however I will give this another try. Beautiful restaurant, excellent food, but definitely need a little faster service.
