It's a nice, small place that has never been more than a couple groups of customers when I've been there. You'll be seated and served quickly. There's a lot on their menu, and it's very normal Chinese food, nothing too crazy. We did order a nice appetizer sampler with assorted fried goods- crab rangoons, egg rolls, things of that sort, with these skewered beef pieces that were very tasty, served pointed upright with a burning candle at its center. Felt like it was my birthday, so that was a fun surprise.Their dinner portions are generous, mostly served with a nice big side of rice, so you won't leave this place hungry. Might even be some leftovers to take home and enjoy later. Served nice, hot, fresh, and with great flavor. The servers are attentive, nice, and effective.I realize, on re-reading, that I've used nice in nearly every paragraph of this review. And that's okay because it suits it. It's a nice place.

I grabbed take out for the first time tonight. The price for quality of food don’t match up. The good: amount, crab Rangoon & egg roll. The bad: general tso’s definitely didn’t taste anything close to what I’ve had anywhere else. Tasted mostly of the sweet chili red sauce (as well was bright red in color). Seriously, like it came out of a jar and they poured it over the top. The coating on the chicken was not noticeable, almost none. The broccoli was raw. Then the fried rice I had to pay extra for ended up being white rice. 27 dollars later, I miss Oriental Inn even more. The inside wall paper is pretty amazing, that’s why I gave 3 stars.

We've missed Yen Ching since the one on the north side closed down a few years ago, but we don't get to the East side of Indy very often. The decor and atmosphere were very different, but the food was just as great as we remembered. Staff was friendly and attentive. We may need to look for more reasons to come to this side of town.

I have been so disappointed with some of the restaurants that I loved pre-pandemic as they have reopened with trimmed down quality and menus. But Yen Ching on East Washington Street, Indy, did not disappoint at all. In fact, it is, under new ownership, much better than the old Yen Ching which I discovered in 1982,Four of us decided that we wanted a nice sit down dinner. We found that the drab and dismal old Yen Ching decor had been redone with a beautiful new Chinese motif on the walls. The place was neat and tidy--not cluttered as it used to be.But most important, service and the food excelled. I always used to eat Walnut Chicken and so I decided to go for it. The taste was the same to me but the presentation of the plate was much more careful and artistic with a nice garnish. I also could not tell the difference between the Hot and Sour Soup--a favorite at the old Yen Ching. We were offered impeccable service from the moment we entered until we left. Actually, we were enjoying ourselves so much that we may have kept the staff waiting for us to leave as the last customers.Yes, finally I found one of my favorites from before March, '20 that has improved under new management. For sure, I will return. And I noticed many persons coming in for pick-up. None seemed to have to wait very long. Hmmm. . . . I think I will try that next week!

I only gave then 1 star cause 0 stars was not an option. I got the dinner for 2 for me and my son who is 5. He didn't even get full cause he did not like the quality of food. What we got was flavored water with 3 pieces of hard vegetables. Even harder "rice" that almost broke my tooth. The main dishes were mainly vegetables with slivers of fat for meat. It would be an excellent place for a vegetarian who likes meat seasoning and spending exorbitantly. They could not even get sweet tea right. I asked for sweet tea and they brought it. It wasn't sweet tea. When questioned about it he said "that is our plain sweet tea." I should have left then.

I love this place. The place with the face as some locals know it. They are known for the best hot n sour soup around. I am always greeted and made to feel welcome every visit. The food is tasty and the meats are always very tender in each dish. I like that they have real fried rice.

Usually a good place to eat but was very disappointed with my visit tonite. The egg drop soup was horrible didn't have anything in it, just broth and scallions. The House Lo Mein wasn't great....it.was made with spaghetti noodles instead of the regular ones....it taste OK! They only had Pepsi and Coke....nothing else so that leaves water to drink with my horrid meal.

The worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. The garlic chicken was like soup; the chicken was tiny little minced pieces, the dish was mostly vegetables and it was disgusting. The general’s chicken was not at all spicy. I’m not sure what they put in their wontons. The food is questionable and bland. I will never eat from here again.

This has been my favorite Chinese restaurant for years. We went by a couple months ago & they were closed. I was sad, but when we saw they had reopened, we raced straight there. They had completely remodeled! It looks so bright & cheery! More importantly, those dumplings are still A+.

I ordered chicken wings and a house fried rice on a Sunday afternoon. The gentleman I placed my order with said my food would be ready in 20 minutes. I got my food noticed a terrible smell coming from food i just picked up. Got home and open my box of wings they tasted old, so i stopped eating them and then Opened my box of fried rice the order was terrible. It smelled like KY's. I called the restaurant to complain it sound like to me he knews he had given me some spoiled food. He asked me to bring my food back to the restaurant, but I told him no and I said I will never buy from them again and I would share my experience with this restaurant. ??
