To be honest we have never been huge fans of tamales. However we are open minded and when a place garners renown and buzz we are open to trying it. We visited years ago. Then noted this spot was featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives. So we thought we would go back and revisit. We enjoyed the pleathora of options. Some of them were quite good. We ordered six different tamales and shared them so we could each get the full taste gambit. The dessert tamales were different and pretty tasty. Service was not an issue on our visit. We have read other reviews that declared their incompetence. It is an order and pay place and they bring you the food. The atmosphere was a strip mall dining spot. It was okay, not rave worthy. Our overall ratings for this place: Food 4 stars Renown 5 stars Romantic Appeal 3 stars Atmosphere 3 stars Service 3 stars Value 4.5 stars This averages to 3.75 stars which we will round to 4 stars. It is an interesting food choice to build a restaurant around. It is worthy of a stop to give it a try.
We are from Chicago and make it a point to so here every time we come to/thru Indy. The tamale varieties are awesome. A board is updated with what flavors are available, as they are made traditionally.Tacos are pretty bomb too.Highly recommend!
Food was great! Chocolate cake Tamales was awesome. Guacamole was excellent. They charge extra for chip. White Dip was tooSalty. Tamales were amazing!
They're good but over priced. When I first started eating here their tamales were around $3 (which was still pretty high for that time). Like most places, they raised their prices after being on TV. However, I do still eat here every now and then but not as often.
Drove in from Florida with my fiance while on our National foodie tour. The food was amazing and the Tamales tasted like my children's Great Grandmother who was from the islands. She'd stay up all night in my kitchen preparing Tamales for everyone to eat the next day. Definitely will be back!
We stopped by for the first time today and it was excellent. The fresh corn shells are authentic and very good!!
Take out was great I have to be honest the tamales we didn't care for but I won't let that be the deal breaker. Even tho that's the name of the game I noticed other things on the menu ND the masa is good ? we made sopes with it and I'm sure we can put it to better use with the tamales we make .
I didn't really know what Tamales were before I had them here. They were awesome! Can't wait to get more next time I'm in Indy!
The reason for my review is that I drove all the way out here to buy the mass only for tamales, because I make my own and looking forward to use fresh masa. After I ordered my masa, I was told that masa is paid with cash only and I never carry cash. The guy told me that he accepted cards to buy food, but cash only for the masa. So I ended not buying it and was pretty upset.
Tamales the size of your forearm and are stuffed to the gills, so be careful not to over-order! The chicken/red was great, but the pineapple/raisin was unexpected and so amazing. Definitely try the dessert tamales! The beef/red had to be the biggest tamale I’ve ever seen. And the fresh corn tortilla chips are better than what I make at home. And no mess! Had no idea they were on Triple-D, but they live up to the hype. They have a computer screen that shows all the tamales they have for the day and how many are left. Awesome idea.Takes credit cards.
