"TERRIBLE: DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!"I chose Michael's to celebrate my daughters Masters Degree from Purdue May 21, 2022, because of all the 4+ star reviews, and I always want to support Black owned businesses. This is important to me. I live in Atlanta, GA, and I had guests traveling from Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, OH, and Michigan. My event planning began several months ago. I worked directly with Connie and Shannon. We confirmed via email my brunch menu, date, times, and my desires for the brunch celebration. I arrived in Indy early, and I did a walk-through of the event space on Ohio where I found out from staff that Michael's doesn't have central air, and they haven't had central air in several months almost one year?! What?! I want to make you aware that NEVER in the several months I worked with Connie or Shannon did they say their central air has been out. NOT EVER.A staff person pointed out there were portable air units, which would be turned on over night and assured they would have the restaurant cooled for our brunch Saturday morning/afternoon. My fiancee and I had our doubts, but graduation was at 9:30 AM the next morning. We had paid the establishment in full.On Saturday, the heat was unbearable in the restaurant and would become more so as guests continued to arrive. The portable air units were not working properly. The sound system wasn't working, and the projector screen wasn't working. My fiancee was on a ladder trying to fix it.I called Connie during graduation to understand how this could be happening and why I wasn't aware of the AC issues. Connie's response: "What do you want me to do about it?" Oh, it gets better. She then said, "I'll just refund your money, and y'all can go somewhere else." Yes this while I'm at the graduation with guests in her establishment. Yes, and it gets even better. She then told me, "I should have never taken your event, and she wasn't making any money on my event."Eventually, Connie moved my event from Michael's to her other Miami Gardens venue 20 minutes from Michael's. My guests had to leave the event space and proceed to the other. All while I'm at the graduation trying to celebrate my daughter. After all of this my guests can finally eat. They should have been served at 9 AM. It was 11-11:30 before food was served, and guess what?! It was luke warm at best. Not only was the food warm, but it simply wasn't good. None of it. Not the breakfast egg rolls, not the peach cobbler, definitely not the salmon Croquettes...All of the guests complained the food was subpar and that it wasn't even warm. I could go on. By the time we were leaving, I noticed the staff began making plates of the food for themselves. Food I paid for. Yes, from our buffet. No one asked. No one asked me if I wanted or needed to go plates for my family. Here's a kicker for you; one of the servers made three plates for herself that one of my family members picked up thinking they were for guests. She came outside the restaurant. The staff server said, "No I made those plates for me!" I'm not kidding? She then said, " You don't want to take them I put my hands all in those plates!" I can't make this up.Connie did show up at the venue and was overheard disrespecting my family, but she graciously walked up to me. I suppose she didn't know she was overheard being disrespectful. She even helped herself to a plate of our brunch. I hope she disciplined her chef on the luke warm food presentation. If I could give this experience/place ZERO stars I would. I suppose Shannon did the best she could under the circumstances. She created an open bar, although it wasn't a full bar, and a couple of the young lady servers were pleasant.Connie downright lied to me and my family. Her staff told me the truth, and that's sad. This experience was just terribly disappointing. Do better! Respect your customers! Don't blame your customers when you

We went there for their Easter “buffet style” dinner. Our party arrived at 2pm and was told by waitress that the buffet will start at 2:15. Unfortunately that was not true. It was after 3pm before we were even served. Not to mention lack of communication from the workers that work there even the “owner” who simply told us we were welcomed to eat somewhere else after we paid for our meal before we were even served. Not to mention we paid 30$ each just to be told that our beverages (non-alcoholic)WAS NOT included in that price and we will need to pay for those separately. Even after all this our table was simply ignored by staff , we were never offered refills or even checked to see if we needed anything. It came off as we were the problem when truly we just asked a question. This not the first time my family has dined here before and it’s always something. From them running out of food or just running late or behind. We tried to support a fellow black owned business but we all agreed we wouldn’t return. This place comes off very unorganized every time we go. Hopefully they do better.

The food was good it’s a $50 buffet But you only go up 1 time so not really a buffet. But food was good. I didn’t like the fact that we only got 1 plate so if you don’t like your food to touch then you out of luck. The setting was very very did I say very tight. I was with a group of 8 keep in mind. The tables and chairs was so close together it was uncomfortable. The party next to us was so close she was bumping me lol. You get your drink refills 3 times no more. Idk you be the judge of that one. Now the music the music was way too loud and over powering for me and I listen to loud music all day long but it was too over powering for me. We could not hear each other talking at our table. The music selection was ok just way too loud. I would just do 1 person singing and a piano something a bit more smoothly during dinner. Over all I would say music 0 stars for me. Food 5 stars. Setting 1 star. Staff 5star. Over all 2 star. But that music gave me a headache and like I said I love my loud music I have 2 12” subwoofers in my car so I know loud music. If it had not been for the music I would have given a 4. Would I go back? Big question again music down 50% yes I would go back but same music no I would not go back. It was my birthday and my wife took me out with a group of friends other people with us said the same thing. The manager did notice us leaving and call my wife and asked was everything ok my wife voiced our disappointment of the music. The manager was very nice. If you ask me should you try it I would have to say yes. Everyone is not going to like everything. Food was good fish was the best for me.

First and last time going. Our party was very dissatisfied. Food was not seasoned, and none of us even wanted to visit the buffet for seconds. When we asked about the advertised dessert, we were casually told that they weren't serving any; it definitely wasn't worth the $50. I ordered a martini, and it came out in a 4 oz plastic cup that was only filled halfway, and it cost $10. The couches are not firm...as you sink into them when you sit down. We couldn't enjoy the band as it was too hot and crowded. They had only one waitress for the entire room. I hesitated to give a review as they announced that they wanted everyone to leave a great review. I felt so bad for the party who were so excited in line but were told that they couldn't seat them as they over-booked. Yes, they had reservations. Do better.

Best soul food in town! Service was great. Ambiance was wonderful. If they have greens and cabbage on the menu for the day, get it! You’re not going to be disappointed.

Michael's Soul Kitchen compares to an upscale restaurant you would find in Downtown Atlanta. The food was seasoned to perfection. The portions are enough to get full on and take the rest for a later snack. I wanted some of their amazing peach cobbler but waited to long to order it. I was so much into the live music, time got away and the kitchen was closed. The staff (including the co-owner) was very friendly and personable. They interacted with the crowd and their performers .. making sure their experience was OUTSTANDING!!It was MAGNIFICENT!! Go see, hear and taste for yourself.

Really had a good time here Friday evening. Food was excellent, everything seasoned to perfection! Drinks were good. The live Jazz band was on point. Please support this black owned business! It's one of our jewels in Indianapolis
