I ate at L’l Dumplings yesterday, 5/29/22. The food was so salty it was inedible. They’re doing everything else right, but that’s a major mistake. I later heard someone comment that the food there is always too salty. That’s not a reputation you want. So easy to fix.
Clumpy noodles, but worse the tokatsu ramen meat was spoiled. I had to throw the bowl away. Pork belly should not taste spoiled like that.
Personally, I always expect a higher price point when paying for ramen — that being said, I think their prices fair well with all the other options in the garage. (You’re in a food hall in the middle of Indianapolis. Get off your high horse and enjoy the options ya dunce.)I usually get the tonkostu ramen or dan dan noodles. I LOVE the spice level in the dan dan noodles (even it if tickles my throat) and find the tonkatsu ramen to be comforting — but that’s probably because I grew up on pork belly.I’ve only ever experienced an off day from them once where I received flavorless broth. I never let this deter me from them, though. (My pure guess is a staff training issue as I noticed it was someone else than the usual people who always hand me my food)
Ramen was a little expensive, noodles were a tad chewy for me. Kimchi was great! However, one of the people working there could hardly explain what kimchi was to a questioning customer (I told her a little bit about it off to the side). I got the tonkatsu ramen. Not enough of any of the ingredients. Broth was very basic. Pork was the best part of it. Took around 5-7 minutes after my order was placed to receive the food. All in all, too expensive for what you're getting (regular bowl of ramen and kimchi side was $21~). Lots of good places at the garage but unfortunately I won't be returning to this one.
I got the tonkatsu ramen. It was the worst I’ve ever had, no exaggeration. The broth was cold and oily and the noodles were stuck together in big clumps. This was gross…and $17.
I got the beef short rip kimchi ramen. It was underwhelming to say the least. I was expecting some intense complimented flavors and it was all basically bland. The tofu steam bun was pretty good though.
Great dumplings and steamed buns. Loving the creativity of this team. Can’t wait to try more stuff.
Tried the kimchi ramen. Really lackluster in terms of quality and preparation. There really isn’t enough of each ingredient. The individual components — kimchi, meat, noodles — are meh, and together as a dish it’s still meh. Broth sucks too. Sorry guys, really not impressed. It’s just not that special.
Pretty good ramen, pricey for hole in the wall with mostly standard ingredients. Had much better dim sum, I think I saw them being poured out of a packet (otherwise would have given 4 star)
Had lunch here with my mom and both the ramen and dumplings were delicious!
