From beginning to end, each dish was beautiful and delicious! We will be back. Thank you, Hinata!
The food and service were outstanding!
Over all we had a fantastic experience. My hubby was disappointed there wasn't a cocktail list it was just the wine and sake but the sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and very good at picking drinks he would love and the wine pairings with the dishes were amazing. The place was clean, the staff were all very nice and accommodating. The sashimi course was torched for me since I am pregnant and can't eat raw fish so that was incredible of the chef. Honestly it was absolutely amazing experience. We paid a bit more than I planned on and I can really only nit-pick at things. I feel like the music in the space didn't really fit, I'd have much preferred something more traditional Japanese to fit the food but over all I definitely plan on coming back. If you've never experienced kaiseki dining before then make sure you plan for 2 hours. Its not a traditional dining experience like we are used to in the states.
I loved our Hinata experience. The restaurant is small and intimate. The staff knowledgeable and friendly. We loved our interaction with the beverage host, Shane. He has an extensive knowledge of both the drinks they serve, and the wine and spirits industries their beverages represent. The food and drinks were wonderful, and while there were some items that wowed me more than others, everything was wonderfully prepared and presented. Even on the less wow items the taste was very good. It is not inexpensive, but if you want something different and well done, it is worth it. We will definitely be back! The food scene in Indy is definitely going in the right direction.
Excellent food and service. Would definitely come for another special occasion
Wedding anniversary-31st! Shane and entire wait staff were awesome…food was amazing as always!
I am reviewing Hinata at the price point of our meal and as the top sushi establishment in Indianapolis. This means comparing it to other high-end restaurants in the same class worldwide and our expectations based on the price. Our meal was $608.22 for two people. We had the price fixe menu with the higher end wine/sake pairing. Our rating is 3.5 stars for Hinata but cannot give that on google apparently.Food (4 stars): The sushi meal itself was very good. When comparing against other Michelin rated sushi restaurants we have gone to I would place Hinata in the same class but at the lower end which is still very good. The cuts of fish and other meats were excellent and prepared in an artistic fashion. The tastes they blended was what we would expect for a place like this. The negative aspect would be the number of courses were far too low. 6 courses is absolutely on the low end at this price point where I would expect 8-10 in most places that are equivalent. For example Central in Lima you get 15-17 courses at a lower price point and they are the 7th ranked restaurant in the world right now.Wine Pairing (4.5 stars): I would say that Hinata has done an excellent job for the wine pairing for our meal. It was not the best we have ever had but it competes with some of the best restaurants in the world at any tier. There were courses that the meal was not complete without the wine/sake and vice versa. Both brought out something in the other that was not possible to notice alone. I would also say the sommelier was very, very good. His explanation and presentations of each course was excellent.Service (3 stars): This not a Michelin restaurant but they charge Michelin prices. I would expect a higher level of service for Hinata. The servers were good, and great personalities which we enjoyed but the traditional standard of service and presentation/pageantry you get with higher end restaurants was lacking. If this was a 200$ meal I would say they were perfect but not at this price point. This also could be what they are going for. A much more casual presentation and service experience which is probably appealing to many.Ambiance (2.5 stars): I do not know what they are doing on this one to put it bluntly. It was like eating in a high school cafeteria (a fancier one) or a budget sushi establishment. The lights are blisteringly bright, the seating is close quartered and cheap looking, I think I would probably recommend eating at the sushi bar if you have the option over the cafeteria tables. This was one of the most confusing designs for a high-end restaurant I have ever seen. A lot could be solved by diming the lights and upgrading the seating layout and compositions. Décor was fine IMO as I like minimalistic approaches there.Overall Expectations (3 stars): This absolutely IS the best sushi restaurant in the Indianapolis area. If you have a special occasion to celebrate this should be considered if you love sushi and don’t want to drive to Chicago. If you are a big foodie and love going to high end restaurants you can skip this one. Explore other options in Indianapolis as this is not worth your time in general. We left happy we got to finally try Hinata out and eat some good sushi with an excellent drink paring but our expectations were not met at all.
We were there for our anniversary, and the food was amazing. The drink pairings went perfectly with the different dishes, and for someone who doesn't drink dry wine, I enjoyed them.
This was for my wife’s birthday. All dishes was well prepared and their birthday cake was also fantastic.
Have wanted to dine here for sometime. Well, well worth the wait. The food was incredible. If you like authentic Japanese cuisine, this is the place. Love the ambience and the service was superb. The young lady that greeted us set the tone for a wonderful evening. The Sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and so attentive. A joy to associate with. Everyone we dealt with was charming and helpful. Each course was explained and certainly enjoyed. I highly recommend the pairings. Each was perfectly matched with the course. Loved trying the different Saki's in the pairings. They were all totally different, so it was a Saki learning experience for me. Hopefully, I can return each month to try the new offerings. Five stars for sure for Hinata and the chef and staff.
