My boyfriend and I came up from the Chicago suburbs to go chill at Kemil beach, on the way back we decided to cross through Gary as we have been there many times, but never have tried the food! OMG! The hot wings were SO GOOD! I’ve tried multiple places near Chicago - Sharks, JJs, Brothers submarines, no place has wings as good as Gowdys! The hot sauce was sooo good and flavorful, yet the wings were still SO crispy and good, plus they were big! I will absolutely be back for more wings! My boyfriend loved the fish as well!
I am from outside of Chicago, two towns from Cicero named Lyons. I come to Gary sometimes to enjoy the scenery and food.First time trying Gowyd's and man. It was a hit as expected.The chicken and fish were so fresh and crispy. Not skinny fillets with hard parts like you'd get near the city. 10/10.
I ordered a large catfish dinner and the fish was good. But they did not give a lot of fries.
The actual food is the only good thing about this place, everything else is bad. The phone is off the hook and the service is bad and ghetto
Lady with the red shirt hair is very rude and unprofessional…..their card machine is never working and smells of old grease
It's ok they a little skimpy on the food. I don't expect a large amount but at least worth the price
Too much Batter on Shrimp.. Very bad. Needs to change the cooking Grease. Whiting fish has old grease smell. Spent 31.00 wont do that again.
Great deal on the daily lunch specials. Fish tasted great. However, the wings were SUPER salty. Please work on the appearance. The inside was dirty with some sort of dried liquid splashes on the walls and door.UPDATE 8/17/21: Purchased the Tuesday Special, which was the whiting nuggets and they were PERFECT!! Did I mention the HUUUUGE portion? MY tastebuds were SUPER HAPPY!
Not bad but not really good either. The fish was fried to hard so when I bit into it all of the breading fell off. The fries were good. You can skip this trip to the hood because for so so food and non existing customer service, it is not worth the money. There is a McDonald's on every corner folks with better fries.
The seasoning was good but My fish and shrimp was fried way to long. The edges were to hard
