All dishes...sushi and fish were perfect. Excellent service and atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgeable wait staff and delicious cocktails.
Wonderful food and service! All appetizers are top notch! I especially loved the beef wrapped asparagus and dynamite shrimp. I had sushi for the first time and truly enjoyed it!Don't miss this gem!
Rude service. Dirty restaurant. Awkward atmosphere. Not recommended. Detailed review below. This past Sunday, I visited Umi after hearing some good things about both the food and the service. It was a place on my "must-try" list of restaurants. After placing a reservation online through Yelp a week in advance(and confirming it twice), my party of four excitedly arrived for dinner. First, we are hit with an unpleasant damp scent, sort of what a mildewy basement smells like. Second, the restaurant seemed devoid of guests or vibrancy, and there was no one at the hostess stand. We wait for about ten minutes with no staff member in sight. Finally, the host appeared and indifferently asked if he could help us. I told him we had a reservation, and he interrupted me to ask if it was made online. He told us online reservations do not work anymore or something, but he mumbled something and said he could seat us anyway. (The restaurant was empty, so I would've hoped so). Our booth and entire seating area were dirty. The table was greasy with a peculiar translucent film all across it. The half-wall dividing our side from the booth parallel ours was covered in multicolored spots and grime. It was very unsightly, to say the least. Lastly, two of our menus had a big stain covering most of one page. The food was not awful, but compared to other wonderful local Japanese sushi houses with lower prices and higher quality food, Umi could not compare. The presentation of the shoyu ramen bowl was fair, though the sushi rolls were not near as neat as in other places. The final nail in the coffin for Umi was the last fifteen or so minutes. The music was abruptly turned off, so the already subpar atmosphere became worse, and one of our checks was not returned to us. Our waitress or other staff just seemed nonexistent. I had to ask for a to-go box three separate times, with the container being tossed at me once it finally came. I did not understand why the service was utterly lackluster with only ourselves and one other couple in the restaurant. For a restaurant that supposedly prides itself on being "high-class," I was appalled. I sincerely hope our entire experience was a fluke, but it would take a great deal of convincing to return to Umi.
This restaurant is fantastic. My wife always gets a doctor singh- it's a must try! My favorites are the sun roll and spicy tuna. Definitely try the tuna cubes. I could not recommend a restaurant more.
Our server was so sweet and the portions were a lot bigger than I expected. I will definitely come back for special occasions. I'm so glad FW has such a nice restaurant. The crab Rangoon dip is to die for! It's so delicious and it's exactly what you think it is, a deconstructed crab Rangoon!
We had a great experience for a committee meeting in the bourbon locker room! We enjoyed a large sampling of many different types of sushi and appetizer platters which were all fantastic followed by a bourbon flight sampler including one of the hibachi bourbons. Excellent!! The staff did an amazing job. Rachael coordinated the event, Heather took care of all our serving needs, and Tiercell put together our bourbon flight samplers. Brian, UMI's owner, spent over an hour with our committee sharing some history of how and why he brought Umi's to Fort Wayne. Many thanks to the entire UMI team!! Highly recommend.
Very yummy indeed. The diva roll was amazing. Desert is a must have. Professional staff. Pleasant atmosphere.
I absolutely adore this place. The Wife and I went here randomly, and for someone who doesn't like this kind of food, she thoroughly enjoyed it.I decided to order sushi that I have never tried before with the raw quail egg on top. Strange texture, but SO GOOD. The food is great and the atmosphere is very homey, cute, and a little fancy.Make time to go, it'll be worth it.
The food was very good! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the seating, we went to have an intimate dinner and instead the strange booth wall seating had us basically sitting at the same table as the people to our left and right.
First time dining there. Friendly & great food.
