La Campirana serves the best burritos I've ever tasted. I like being able to choose from lots of options to include in your burrito. My favorite is the ground beef burrito loaded with rice, lettuce, sour cream and avocado.
Stopped here on my way home and glad I did. Small but cozy restaurant with friendly staff. I love Tortas so had to get the Chicken torta and I loved it. A good torta comes down to good bread and the bread was perfect along with a flavorful sandwich. We got a side of guacamole that was chunky and delicious. I wish this spot was in my hometown.
Let me begin to tell you how picky I am with my Mexican food. So I’m originally from California, as other Californians claim we have the best Mexican food anywhere in the US. That being said, it’s very difficult to find authentic and good tasting Mexican food on my travels across the US. This place was amazing. As close of not just as good as so cal Mexican food. I’m glad I tried this place. The street tacos first bite reminded me of home! The pastor burrito. Is just so delicious. And the rice….just like momma use to make it. Definitely would eat here again!!
Great food. Loved the al pastor tacos. Salsas offered could use some improvement though. The mild green is good. The hot version is extremely hot. So basically you have one mild and then all the rest are ridiculously hot. Should make a medium red salsa for those who like a bit of spice but still enjoy tasting things for the next week afterward.
This is a Mexican cuisine restaurant tucked away inside Burkhardt Plaza off Burkhardt Road. Absolutely delicious! The staff were incredibly friendly, efficient and quick! My food came piping hot and arrived so quick that it shocked me! There is ample parking as it is the first business (corner business) on the plaza itself! I went during the week and I AM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS RESTAURANT!
La Campirana is a unique Mexican restaurant. You order at the counter, sit down and they bring your food out. They have a salsa bar but no chips like a standard Mexican restaurant. They might have chips that you can order, I don't know, but I have not seen any. Forget about the chips though... who needs them with food this freaking good!?!My wife and I are vegan and our kids eat whatever they want. I am impressed with the care La Campirana takes when preparing our food. Vegetables are not cooked along side of meat, the rice does not have chicken (or any other) stock/broth and they do not use lard in their beans. It is hard to find a Mexican restaurant that has "safe" rice/beans and take the care in preparing it without shared cooking surfaces or utensils. I know I am one of those annoying vegans but I really do appreciate it!I first visited La Campirana about 4 years ago. I got some vegetarian gorditas and all I remember was they were pretty spicy and really good. I had never had an authentic gordita before. I left a 5-star rating back then but there was no review with it here on Google. I decided I needed to write a review after eating there again this weekend.Our usual spots in Evansville were closed on Sunday when we were in town. We were kind of in a hurry and didn't want to do the full sit down meal but wanted something better than Moe's, Qdoba or Chipotle. Thankfully my wife remembered La Campirana!I ordered alambres (vegan style). It has onions, peppers and I added Mexican zucchini and potatoes. It also comes with rice and beans along with four (yes, 4) flour tortillas. You can opt for corn tortillas too but I prefer flour. My wife ordered sopes, also vegan style, and had grilled cactus with it. My youngest had a chicken burrito. We loved it! I had never had sopes before and I loved the corn bread base. It was quite different than what I would normally get at a Mexican restaurant.That was Sunday (2 days ago) we ate there. I had to run back down to Evansville this evening to pick something up. I brought my oldest son and got some driving practice in. We stopped by La Campirana for dinner before we left Evansville. I had alambres again but added the cactus this time. He had a carne something burrito. It was terrific again!The sautéed vegetables in the alambres are never too oily. It's not served so hot that you can barely eat or taste anything. The amount of food is perfectly sized for the four flour tortillas. It taste good and I don't feel terrible after eating it. I wish I didn't live almost 2 hours away!The staff up front working the counter and floor are all very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. I can't thank the kitchen staff enough for properly preparing vegan food. It's common for me to have meat accidently make it in my food at other restaurants. That is simply not the case here at all. Excellent authentic Mexican food! Portions are good, service is good. Not your typical Mexican restaurant where you are seated and welcomed with chips and salsa. You actually walk in to the order counter and then sit like a fast food place. They have a large salsa bar but chips are extra. They also serve a wide variety of juices.Enjoy!
You'll be over leaving this place looking for a wheelchair because you'll be so stuffed. True authentic Mexican cuisine. Family friendly service. And they have fresh ice cream on a stick to the right fantastic fresh loving flavors I'll blow your mind.
Craving breakfast? Craving tacos? HAVE BOTH! I 110% recommend the Breakfast Taco de Huevo con Papas y Chorizo. Admittedly, I'm a spicy enthusiast, and Chorizo is one of my favorite spicy meats. But, man oh man, put the Chorizo in a breakfast taco and – BOOM – you'll never want a different breakfast meal. Wait, did I mention I got this during "lunch time?" Because, yeah, it's served ALL DAY!
Delicious, authentic Mexican food. A wide selection of dishes, as well as many choices for taco filling and salsa. Great service, with kind and quick staff. I highly recommend the mangonada and elote, they are amazing. Taco truck in parking lot open late after restaurant closes.
