Rude employees, and the ownership seems content with hiring the same type of people. I used to come to the 3rd Street Soma and Laughing Planet all the time but I have been boycotting these business until they meet somebody who will at least be relatively friendly. In the morning, they will be crabby and curt with you and not even try to give passable service at all. I used to love this place but since they raised prices dramatically in 2019 and have fallen off completely in terms of service since the pandemic I'm not coming back. Even before the pandemic a guy at the 3rd Street Soma was rude to my sister for no reason. Maybe they should hire people who are actually nice rather than look or dress a certain way. They ask really dumb questions in the job applications as well, because they are looking for a certain type of personality characteristic in people, and it isn't good service. The workers have been rude to me and people I was with in more than one location multiple times.

I love the employees and the coffee, but they’re grossly underpaid and overworked. I (as well as many other people) will not be going here until the management improves and the pay improves for them.

A great place for an outdoor meeting or for working indoors. The coffee is second to none and the pastries are always tasty. Love this Bloomington staple.
Best cafe in Bloomington staffed by some of the nicest folks around. Shame that Laughing Planet was run into the ground, as there was little better than grabbing a burrito and eating it in the map covered back room here before going over to TD's for that hard to find CD or LP. Still, no stop in Bloomington is complete until you swing into Soma for a Dr. D's or a Swamp Thing.
Cozy little place downtown. Please work on your juice/smoothie flavors; strawberry banana shouldn't taste like apple.
