I live in Virginia and as far as I'm aware, we don't have any hot chicken restaurants anywhere, so I got real excited when I saw this place in Bloomington. This was some of the best chicken I've had in a while, but I will say that is was very greasy, I got 2 tweener jumbo strips, but next time, I'm definitely getting hot. Pretty good overall
This is easily my favorite spot for fried chicken. Everyone on staff has always been extremely great at serving customers quickly without compromising the quality of their food. Leah S and the other staff members (sorry for spacing their names ) are always working extremely hard to give their customers a delicious and positive experience. They always knock it out of the park even when they seem slammed. I'll always return for a ghost pepper sammie and mac and cheese. ??❤️
Joella’s Hot Chicken is a great quick place to stop by and grab some chicken. If you want a quick meal and want something more substantial than fast food, this is your place. Our server, Leah, was very polite and provide fast service even while the restaurant was seemingly short-staffed for the day.
Joella's has amazing chicken strips with just about any kind of sauce that you could want on it. And the most interesting parmesan fries you've ever had. The reason I gave them four stars instead of five is because the food you get is never hot, and who likes cold fries. Got a update from the owner about my review and the email they sent me to contact them, was a bad email address
The chicken was very good and that is coming from someone that doesnt really like chicken. My two sammies came on a single piece of sliced bread, no bun. I thought that was strange, it was still good. (Wish I had a picture). Also had the mashed potatoes, excellent. Mac and cheese was not very good. I wanted the fish, but they were out. The soda machine was also out of order. I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again, but it wasn't bad.Followed up, no response...
I was concerned when we arrived only due to this restaurant not being busy. My fears were quickly quelled when we received our food. My chicken strike were lightly breaded and moist. The waffles had a slight crisp on the outside and were tender in the middle. Shoe string parmesan fries were perfectly cooked and bonus! I was able to have a side of garlic aioli for dipping. I also had the coleslaw which was also good. It was somewhere between creamy and vinegar slaw. I approve. You only have one diet cola flavor as an option for sugar free soda or unsweetened tea. The tea was fresh brewed and well made. The reason I didn't give this place a 5 star because of their pie in a jar. It was even good - red velvet cake (cake!) is what we tried. Uhm, 'scuse me please, this is cake not pie in a jar. So I'm being terribly picky on that bit. I totally recommend Joella's Hot Chicken
Chicken is very good. I loved the macaroni and cheese. Neat drinks that are different from the norm.
I ordered online, and got everything I ordered, except both chicken quarter's I ordered were kid meal sized, and I didn't get full. Nobody helped us, we had to get our food ourselves, and the store was dirty. Trash overflowing, unsanitary. I could go to KFC and get twice the food for half the price!
Went there in a group of five, first time for everyone. It was around 1pm and they only had a few people, so originally, I was concerned. I believe my meal alone (drink not included) was ?11.99? Anyway, you order at the register and they hand you a number to take to your table. Food was done rather quickly and it was all nice and fresh. I had the 3 tenders and fries with ranch and spiced honey (I paid for an extra sauce, you get one with the meal). Oh, and the drinks! They seem to have an association with a soda company. It wasn't Coke or Pepsi, it was better (in my opinion). Sadly, they only have one flavor choice for those of us that can't have sugar. However, they also have sweet or unsweetened tea there. Was afraid to try it at first (most places rarely have good unsweetened tea; its drank less commonly and there for usually skunks). To my delighted surprise, it was good! Okay, back to the food. Chicken was the best battered and fried chicken I ever had. It was flavorful and moist. The ranch I used was pretty tasty and the spiced honey (Buffalo sauce and honey mixture) wasn't bad either. Probably will just get ranch next time though, it was the better of the two. Fries were shoe string style (my least favorite style), and I ordered them as garlic parm. flavored. Despite the style, they tasted pretty good. Dessert... went there for the Nutella poppers (was advertised online) but, that location no longer does those (said some in Indianapolis may still do so). All they had was, Pie in a Jar. Now, I thought this interesting and chose red velvet (was interested how they made it into a pie). Well, they didn't, it was cake, and mostly cake. I was missing the icing, there wasn't enough to give it that expected red velvet cake flavor. Though the cake was done well, I was left disappointed. Dessert was my only complaint, and it didn't stop me from giving them a 5 star. Everyone else also loved their food, and the soda. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly the pricing. One of the people with us decided to pay for everything. I also admit that I forgot to take a picture at the arrival of our food and started eating. ? So, sorry for the pictures, had to make do with what was left at the time of my realization. Anyway, everything (minus dessert, it was not) was great. Definitely plan on going again.
Unfortunately I will not be visiting this Joella's location again. My family and I love Joella's chicken and was so excited to see one in Bloomington. We ate at this location when they first opened, it was great service and good food. That was the one and only time that the food and service was good quality. We've experienced horrible service and food quality the last three times we attempted to try again and it's never gotten better. Very disappointing.
