Uncle Julio's is usually alright for a bite to eat. I've had good meals, and I've had not so great meals. Food is slightly over priced, and although consistent and pretty decent in taste, the margaritas are also very expensive. I'll likely be back as my friends and some of my family like this place, but I prefer other, more authentic Mexican restaurants.

I was excited to try this place but was quickly disappointed. The queso was very chalky and the chicken was extremely dry. Our tortillas were so stale and you could tell they had been sitting out for a long time and they just warmed them up for our meal. The rice was way over cooked and very watery. Nothing about the meal was pleasant or worth any money. Better off going to the Taco Bell down the street.

Had a wonderful lunch starting with light tortilla chips with a smokey salsa to die for. I wish they would bottle it. Added a side of guacamole. We had for the main course, carnitas tacos and chicken quesadillas. All topped off with strawberry lemonade.

Superb service! Our waiter was extremely sociable and attentive to our every need from the moment we sat down and everything in between. Extremely pleased and would highly recommend it!

I have been here a couple of times over the years and for the most part I would say it has been solid. If I am going to have authentic Mexican food I prefer the small restaurants, but in a pinch this will do.My buddy and I got grilled fish tacos and enchiladas which were pretty good. The tacos could use less slaw and some more sauce but overall they were good. The chips and salsa that they bring to the table is pretty good and easy to fill up on so take it slow with those. If we're meeting up again in the area it will be on our radar.

Uncle Julios had an off night. I’ve been here several times and it’s always been great (4 or 5 stars). Today, the food and the drinks were a miss. The perfect patron was far from perfect and I was a bit disappointed our server didn’t offer to fix the drinks. As for the food today, it was just average.I definitely left a bit disappointed. That said, I’ve definitely had some good experiences in the past and I hope this was a one off.

My husband and I were here for Valentine’s Day.The service was excellent and the Skirt Steak was delicious! Highly recommend but make a reservation, this place is busy!

The drinks were good, but the food was about as authentic as Taco Bell, the beans looks right out of a can, the enchiladas we had were very disappointing, seemed like it was rushed. With how expensive this place is, its a shame the food seems far from authentic.

Worst experience ever. My second time at Uncle Julio's and I got salmonella. I will gladly say I will never go back ever again. I was trying to enjoy a nice dinner with family but everything went downhill after we left. Do not get chicken quesadillas. They either didn't wash their hands when making my food, or had the chicken undercooked. I highly recommend to not go to Uncle Julio's in Vernon Hills. I am experiencing some of the worse symptoms, so if you don't want salmonella don't go here.

Placed an online order through Google. Very easy. I had a good memory from long ago at a different Uncle Julio's and I was hoping to repeat that experience. Just as I recalled, the chips and salsa were incredible. But a good TexMex restaurant has to be more than incredible free appetizers, right?I ordered vegetable fajitas, and a few sides. The menu convinced me that the vegetables were grilled on mesquite, and not sauted in a pan like so many other places. And the menu was right on. Grilled to perfection. The cilantro white rice and spiced black beans that came with them were quite good too. The little tray of pico de Gallo, sour cream, cheese and guacamole that came with the entree was OK but very tiny.I ordered the guacamole appetizer and it too was in a small round tray--really small considering the $8+ price. The flavor and texture was nothing special and even appeared to have been prepared yesterday. The Mexican rice side was very good, but I also ordered a side of Frijoles ala charra. The kitchen printout that came stapled to the carryout bag said "small side of beans", and that's all I got--a small tub of baked pinto beans. I was expecting a much more complex dish from the description in the menu.Overall I have to say I was pleased with my lunch and I will return for more in the future--the menu has lots of things I want to try--and next time I'll skip the guacamole. But I'm still curious about that Frijoles ala charra as described in the menu!Dirk.
