This place was amazing. We had a great waitress and service. We highly recommend.
The food was amazing, the staff was super friendly, and the building is a gem!!
Our main lunch course was generous in meat and the frys were hot and tasty. Strangely, the waiter intended to serve the salad after he delivered the main course. After I declined the salad before he went to get it, the waiter stated that is how they do it at this restaurant and in the future I would need to let them know to deliver the salad before the main course?!
Wonderful food in a beautiful restaurant with great service. We had the crab cakes to start followed by penne pasta and scallops. All equally wonderful.
Very nice place and most of the guests were dressed up because they knew they were going someplace special. The staff is friendly and helpful. Maldaner's is serious about using fresh and locally obtained ingredients for their dishes, so much so that the owner himself (I understand) picked the morel mushrooms that went into the Morel Pie. If you like mushrooms and especially morels you will understand how absolutely delicious the Morel Pie is! I ordered the Beef Wellington. I had never had Beef Wellington before but, let me tell you, it was outstanding! It was so good, so warm and pink and tender, that I gobbled it up before I thought to take a picture to show you how beautiful it was! Next time I'm in Springfield, I will definitely look forward to visiting Maldaner's again!
Walked in. Sat in the bar area. The manhatten I had was one of the best I've had in a long time. My wife had french onion soup and I had the minestrone. Both were excellent. I ordered the beef wellington and my wife ordered the prime rib. The wellington was cooked right but had no flavor whatsoever. My wife's rib was on the rare side and was a fatty mess. To make matters worse, the serrated knives provided were cheap and it was difficult to cut our meat. So if you want good soup and drinks, this is your place. Otherwise pick non-meat entrees.
I have a recurring business gig that brings me to Springfield, IL. Maldaner's is by far my favorite part of coming here. A local tradition that has been here well over a century, and rightly so. Food and service excellent, easily as good as Michelin starred restaurants I have visited in big cities. My favorites so far: minestrone soup (completely vegetarian), duck confit, smoked trout plate.-- But that's only because I haven't yet tried the beef wellington (next visit, hopefully). Nice wine list, too.
I come here when I'm in town for work. So far I have been twice. There is no way I can say how delightfull this place is. Everything I've had is tremendous. Tonight I had French onion soup, a slice of morel mushroom pie, and bread pudding for dessert. Amazing! Not inexpensive but extraordinarily reasonable for the quality and the experience. A real gem!
Superb service, the Best morel mushroom pie, comfortable atmosphere. Lovely dining experience.
Yes, this is a classy restaurant.... a historic venue that is worth the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The food was excellent. The service was good.
