Had to stop by on our Rt. 66 journey and have a signature corn dog. Not unlike any anywhere, just a little less breading (a good thing). Fast friendly service for not much money - good value.
In business since 1949, Cozy Dog has been serving incredible hot dogs to travelers on Route 66. Great dogs at this iconic highway stop.
As you travel down Route 66, you will have some days that are spectacular. This was one of those days. For sure plan a day or more in Springfield. As Route 66 goes, this is what it’s all about. The Lincoln venues are so phenomenal, the Cozy Dog really tops off your the Springfield experience and, above all, it’s authentic. Everything in this town is within 15 minutes of each other. This is on the south side and you can hit it on the way out of town towards St Louis, Missouri. There are many pictures, so need we say more. We aren’t corn dog fans, but we had one. It’s an easy 5/5 bubbles. Patronize this local business and keep it great.
We stopped here for lunch on our way out of Springfield. We had heard this place's claim to fame is that they originated the corn dog. So naturally we had to try it out on our Route 66 road trip. The corn dog wasn't that great...I think a lot of a corn dog hinges on the dog. And this one was bland and mushy. Nothing with a good beefy flavor or snap. The breading was bland as well. The fries were both soggy and burnt, leading me to believe the oil was too hot? I think this place is great for a photo op but I wouldn't make it a destination to eat.
Stopped for lunch on a drizzly day. Really cool decor, mostly Route 66 and different car collections. Typical lunch fare - hot dogs, burgers, fries, lunch specials. Not very expensive. The fries were served up thin, crispy and hot. There were a lot in the large order - all 4 of us were able to eat out of the portion. Their specialty is a corn dog. It was good, and it was popular.
Ok corndog. Fries different, but they give you a lot . Family basket looks like a deal. 4 hamburgers and one large fry for 13.50

Springfield staple. Cozy dogs and the double cheeseburger are both amazing. Not sure I've had a meal I didn't like at cozy dog! The staff is always friendly as well.

Traveling through the area, we were directed to experience the Cozy Dog. Located on Route #66, this fast food restaurant is decorated with all kinds of signage, memorabilia, and bric-a-brac relating to its namesake and location. There's ample table seating and offers a fun vibe. My wife and I both ordered the Cozy Dog specials at the counter - two Cozy Dogs with fries (one cozy dog too many). We've never experienced a dog on a stick before so we could only compare it to the traditional dog (on a bun with mustard, sauerkraut, onions & relish). The short of it - not fans of this offering, as it seemed dry from the coating and from lack of toppings. We did like the fries, and next time we would opt for their traditional dog. Unique experience!
