My cousin came up to visit from SC (where I'm originally from) last week and was craving soul food. I loved Nicky's Southern Style Kitchen but they sadly closed and I was trying to find a good southern restaurant for when I felt nostalgic. I checked on Google and found this place so me, my cousin, and my husband went to check it out on Monday for lunch and it was amazing. My cousin had been craving pot roast and it happened to be on special that day - she loved it and she is PICKY. My husband is vegetarian so he just got a few sides - Mac and cheese, fried Okra, and candied yams. He loved it all. The Mac and cheese was my favorite. My plate consisted of a golden fried leg and thigh, mashed potatoes with gravy, and fries. I had weight loss surgery last year and still can only eat very small amounts but I was pleasantly surprised that I ate both pieces of chicken and a couple of bites of my sides and my husband's Mac and cheese - it was THAT good! Flavorful, good portions, and even better prices... I can't wait until we can go back for more!!
OMG!!! I just received my doordash order from Boyd's as a new customer EVERYTHING WAS SOOOOO GOOOOD. I bought a piece of caramel cake also. I'm scared to try it bcuz it looks that good lol thank you BNG??I will be ordering again once I work off the calories from this meal first ?
Was on town for the day and had the pleasure of getting some great catfish some slamming green and some awesome Mac and cheese. Excellent service and a friendly staff, if I'm ever in the city again, I will definitely pickup get dinner from there again.
Best fried green tomatoes hands down!! Can't wait to get some more next week. Great energy and the soul food family vibe is exceptional. Love the candied yams you'll want seconds!!! Granny was happy with her dark meat baked chicken dinner so that is a plus she's so hard to please? If a home cooked soul food meal is on your mind this is the place to go!

Am traveling from south for work! I have been going to this place every week since I have been in town. The food is always delicious & hot from the stove. The family that runs the business are friendly & they remember repeated clients by heart. The atmosphere is comfortable. The food price is affordable. Best soul food in area by far. Every different race comes in at lunch time! Excellent service & most recommended!
We picked up food there yesterday on our way back home. The service was great and the food was super delicious! The staff is very friendly. It was well worth our taking a detour off the highway and pulling into Springfield, IL. Prices are very reasonable. We will visit again and encourage anyone reading this post to do so, too. We had the smothered pork chops in gravy, smothered steak in gravy, greens, green beans, yams, corn muffin, spaghetti, chocolate cake and sweet potato pie. All delicious and seasoned just right! They offer some daily specials and so many, many more food items. Next time, we will get the catfish. If we lived in Springfield, they would be seeing us a whole lot.
I've been eating here since I came to Springfield 35 years ago. I've found everything on the menu to be delicious, especially the chicken and greens. The desserts are also wonderful, notably the sweet potato pie.
Perfect family owned soul food restaurant. Food is flavorful, portions are good, staff is what I look for in an establishment. Will continue to visit.
