Food was amazing , we really liked everythingHighly recommendedFrom n.jil
Located in a strip mall this is one of a small chain of restaurants in the metropolitan area. It has a large selection of entrees, more than most Asian restaurants wíth many dishes I've not seen before many of which are listed as being spicy. Alcoholic beverages are available and most of the entrees are reasonably priced.
Not a fan of the Dry Chilli Chicken. Basically dry fried chicken cubes with cut up hot pepper for $14.95. Dry chicken doesn't make much sense, and I'd recommend something with a sauce instead. I'm sure other food options would taste better, but this food wasn't good, but I still will give 3 stars because the restaurant is clean, service is nice and fast, but I'm assuming I made the wrong choice of food.
My wife and I are senior citizens who eat restaurant food, in house or picked up, multiple times per week. Both of us also cook decently, though not expertly. For seven years when I was young I owned and operated a restaurant. Today, after reading some Yelp reviews, I decided to try Lao Sze Chuan in Skokie, which is not too far from my relatively new to us house in Glenview. We ordered the beef egg rolls, the hot and sour soup, the cashew nut chicken and the chili chicken. All were awful and ended up in the garbage. The egg rolls were like mush inside and the sweet sauce terrible, the hot and sour soup tasted, and I may be wrong here, full of MSG and had no balance of flavor, the cashew chicken just terrible and the chili chicken, touted in reviews, was half tien tsin dried Chinese red peppers, literally half, like in a very big pile of them, the kind used for flavor but not eaten. When I picked up my order on a Wed night around 6:30 pm there was only one table and one other customer for pickup, not surprising considering. Prices were high for a strip mall suburban Chinese restaurant, but not outrageous if the food was decent, which it wasn't. There is a Thai restaurant a couple of doors down which is better, though not great, but has a good deal for a lunch buffet, called Ruby of Siam. There are no good Chinese restaurants I am aware of in Skokie, Glenview, Morton Grove, Northbrook, etc., pretty much at all in the Northern suburbs of Chicago though I haven't tried all of the ones in Wilmette yet. Really a shame as there are some very good Chinese restaurants in Chicago if you are willing to drive and put up with traffic. If you go to Lincolnwood, just South of Skokie, there is a good little family run Thai restaurant worth a try called The Elephant on Devon near Central. I would recommend taking a pass on Lao Sze Chuan in Skokie.
The food is excellent, but their service consistently sucks. The chef's spicy chicken and spicy vegetables are spectacular.Short staffed most of the time. The locations in Chicago and China town are better staffed.
The service and atmosphere are good, but the food is low quality and overpriced.I tried some dumplings and sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was good except they made them look bigger than they actually are, with a lot of stuffing. The dumplings were low quality, the duck one having an obviously cheap oil and the soup ones seeming to have raw meat. They were way overpriced, like for example the chicken was $20 when it was more like $10 for the quantity/quality.
Love the food but service tonight was incredibly poor. Obvious that they did not have enough staff. Waited 10 minutes after we were seated to even get menus and water. My entree came out cold, I asked if they would reheat it in a microwave. My wife's entree came out much later than my own. It wasn't hot either. I'll be back at Lao Sze Chain but not for a while.
The food and the waiters were so nice and made sure I was happy with my dine-in and yes the food was delicious
I ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken and it was the worst dish I've ever had in my entire life! All breading and no chicken!
I’ve been to the Skokie location twice now. Service is efficient, and the food is excellent! The menu is extensive, and it’s really difficult to narrow down the choices to one dish. Portions are generous. 3 of us shared 1 order of egg rolls and 1 order of spring rolls. We each chose a different dish, and had plenty to take home for another meal.We drove 45 minutes and it was well worth the trip!
