It's wonder they are still in business. Have to place your own order at a kiosk, and they immediately ask you for a tip. I did tip but I shouldn't have as service was horrible. In fact, there is virtually no service. We ordered 2 double cheeseburgers, and cheese fries. That fact is plainly printed on our receipt. I noticed there was a large block of cheese by the employee loafing around the grill. There were only 10 other people inside, all waiting for food. Our order came after a 40 minute wait. When I received our food, no cheese on the cheeseburgers and no cheese on the cheese fries. When this was pointed out to an employee, they just shrugged and have a smirk. Also the wall where I was sitting had a constant run of ants up and down. If I had not been forced to pay immediately, I would have walked out. If health inspectors don't shut it down, I can't imagine they will last much longer.
Showed up at 2pm. Shake machine was out of order and after ordering found out people had been waiting over an hour for food. I realize there are only two people working but if it’s that backed up it would be nice to know before ordering. Tables were dirty. Bathroom was out of paper towel. Not a great experience for our first time at Steak and Shake. Would not recommend.
Think of a Freddy's Steakburger and then lower your expectations drastically. No cashier to talk to, only a confusing kiosk. Burgers are reasonably priced but to get anything on them you are Nickled and dimed. The service was really slow. Half our food order was drastically delayed. The shake were runny, for the life of me I can't understand how they won a Zaggit award for the shakes. The tables and overall building was dirty. If you want a disappointing dining experience this is your place.
Everything was through a kiosk and there was no size options for the drinks. we ordered cheese for our fries but they were out of cheese and yet we were charged for it. It was a hassle to reimburse the cheese so I exchanged it for something else at least they did that. The food was cold when it came out, they forgot our shakes. When they made our shakes they were missing pertinent ingredients like no cookie dough in chocolate chip cookie dough flavor. Besides having a limited menu, it was a pretty sad experience. I miss the whole Dine in feel of the old steak ‘n Shake experience.
Definitely a staff shortage, which is understandable in this day and age, but - outside of the manager who was definitely putting on her A game - the staff that was there was lacking any sense of urgency. I kind of wished I couldn't see the kitchen where a burger sat off the grill for literally 5 minutes before being dressed and wrapped for someone else's order. Maybe everybody else but the manager was new... But that would be hard for me to believe.
I waited in line for about 10 minutes and it didn’t even move. I tried to go inside and the doors were locked. If you aren’t even serving inside order surely you can keep up with drive thru orders enough to have the line move within ten minutes.
I really don't want to post this review because I have been a fan of Steak and Shake most of my life and this location has been a great spot for friends, family and students over the years. However, my last visit was horrible. They aren't open for inside dinning since the beginning of the pandemic. Drive through only!!! They only operate 5 pm to 8:30-ish. I happened to be driving by and they were surprisingly open for drive thru service. There were only two cars in front of me but they had me pull forward after I paid even though they weren't that busy. I waited and waited and waited. They served FIVE cars after me!!! After 25 minutes of waiting, I had to get out of my car and bang on the front window for someone to acknowledge me since the doors were locked. One of the cooks finally came over and I told him I was waiting for 25 minutes! His response was, "I wondered why you were sitting there!" That tells me, they knew I was sitting there and no one came to check on me. Finally, they gave me my order but the burger had cheese and I specifically asked for no cheese since I am lactose intolerant! Sad that such a previously great restaurant is going down like this!?
Garbage staff but that food be busting like that sexy grill do some magic over there.
Store did not open until 5:30. Completely fine due to circumstance. I waited in line for roughly 20 min. my food was cold. Fries and burger was disgusting. If staffing is short I would expect my food to be hot or at least warm.
Mar 2022 - Showed up at 11:30 where drive thru only hours are 10-10. They weren't doing ANYTHING ?? 3 peaople ahead of me left, I went up, wanted to order, no one was on the comm. Drove up to the window, no one was there. Saw an employee enter the front the door, went to look through the front windows, only 1 other employee was there, and neither were actually doing -anything-. They were just standing there behind the counter.Decided to leave and go to the Steak n Shake in Collinsville. They were working and I was able to actually get food.
