Lovely cafe in the center of a lovely village. The Brazilian theme really works here, especially with the decor. The espresso (sourced from Brazilian beans) is one of the best I've ever had, and the empanadas had a fantastic texture. There was also a wide selection of sandwiches and Brazilian desserts. Everything I wasn't able to try looked so delicious!

Love this coffee shop! The empanadas are delicious and the lattes are perfect! Came here 2 days in a row because we enjoyed it so much. Will come back when in town.
I had an empanada and pão de queijo, it really tested the same has in Brazil. For sure coming back to try the entrees another time.

Friendly staff.Food delicious. Recommend the hearts of palm and guava n cheese empanadas! Both are yummy and great for the winter time. We also ate the vegetarian sandwich, Mulata Bella consist of roasted eggplant and mushrooms on a delicious soft bread. It was surprisingly good. Even more so with the cafe miel - honey cinnamon and espresso I'm a beautiful pottery cup.
I have been here about 10 times. Always good food and coffee. Yesterday I stopped in just for coffee. I order a small coffee and was surprised how small the cup was. Per their menu a small is 12oz for $3. The cup was 8oz. The coffee was very good, but not worth it for that size. I saw a few people with 12oz cups. That must be their large (16oz per their menu).
Overall experience I thought was alright. Espresso is ok and the chicken empanada was really good. The empanada had a nice texture, flavorful, and is kept in a really warm case. Pricing wise, it's ok. It was a little over $8 altogether but part of that is to blame on the current shortage of materials thus why the prices are a little inflated. This coffee shop is perfectly nestled in the heart of downtown Oak Park and should be given a try.

I'm a nursing student so I'm always looking for a coffee shop that isn't too overpriced and Mulatta is perfect! I am a new regular there because of its proximity to the library and compared to neighboring cafes they are by far the best and the most genuinely friendly. No matter how busy they get, they always find a way to be super friendly and personable :)The empanadas are so good! I'm Filipino so I KNOW what good empanadas should taste like and their empanadas are the best I've ever had, don't tell my mom lol. I highly recommend the heart of palm empanadas but I also really enjoy their spinach ones as well.Truly one of a kind. 10/10.
