While in town at the Renaissance Hotel, we stopped by Prairie Grass Cafe. It is a big WOW! Loved the freshness, use of local food and products, and the quality of the presentation and taste. Servers were also professional and made good recommendations. I wish I lived in town. I would be there frequently. Many of us got the Lake Superior Whitefish since we never get it where we live. Tasted like it was caught and cooked the same day. The produce also was amazingly fresh. Tomatoes like they were just picked and the broccoli was steamed to perfection. It is loud when busy so maybe I would have sat outside but many restaurants are too loud now.
First time diner here. The burger (advertised as award-winning) was a taste explosion in my mouth - delicious. Not a fan of potato wedges with skin still on, but I even devoured those. Attentive wait staff also. Well worth a meal(s) here; stop by!
Not enough stars on this page to reflect the amazing fare and warm welcome that is Prairie Grass. Chef Sarah & her dream team are consistently wowing the guests while the front of the house welcomes you back like family. Over the top quality & hospitality every time for any occasion.
For dinning it Prairie Grass is AMAZING... for take out.. meh, I expected they would have perfected the travel-ability of food having a year+ of pandemic to work it out. The veggie burger was tasteless, but no complaints on the salads, and more sturdy foods like chicken breast & mashed potatoes.
Good food but very expensive for lunch. Cheese curds and a salad $38. Autotipping also applied to carry out. I normally tip anyway, but it's interesting to auto tip on a carryout order for 1 person. Idk. Food was tasty. Hostess was friendly.
Prairie Grass is a wonderful restaurant for a special occasion or if you feel like having a slightly fancier night out. The food and service are excellent! I got the date and fig salad as an appetizer, the Lake Superior White fish with mashed potatoes for my main course, and the banana cream pie and chocolate cake for dessert. I definitely plan on coming back soon!
Started our lunch experience with Cosmos. Perfectly Blended nice and cold. Our lunch consisted of Vegetable lentil soup, salmon and bass. The Dishes were absolutely delicious. And served by a very professional staff. Our waiter was not only attentive but took time to chat with us a bit during a very busy lunch time. The chef / owners husband came to our table for a visit as well. We are looking forward to going back for dinner. If you find yourself in Northbrook, Prairie Grass Cafe is a must stop for a great meal.
We went to the restaurant based on a suggestion from Christine Moon. We understand restaurants are not doing well now so we wanted to support. While the service was great, the food was not good. The fish was undercooked. The burger was requested medium rare but came out rare. The salad had no dressing and there were pieces of hair inside it.
Just had takeout (and shared): the half chicken dinner, acorn squash, and rice with nuts; with the fig/date salad (we added tomato); and Broccoli; with double chocolate cake for desert. It was magnificent! tasted so fresh and delicious on a cold snowy evening. Couldn't have cooked something this good at home, and we are pretty good cooks.
Consistent high quality with excellent service. Very respectfully of Covid rules & the wellbeing of staff & patrons. If you luck into a day when they have crab cakes, definitely get them!!!
