We are originally from TN. We’ve been constantly forgetting that this place exists today was our first time. Look it’s good. I can’t deny that. I was wondering why it wasn’t more busy as it was dinner time. Now I get it we ordered #3 which is a slider and a tender. Order was messed up at first, no big deal. We got out slider tender and additional tender. It was fresh and crispy but they clearly left the bread out because it was almost like toast it was so dry. Every component is important, no matter how small. Like I said, it’s tasty but the prices are nuts. For the number #3 and one additional tender was $20. Came with fries, no drink and dry bread. All in all it was good. Nothing as good as Nashville but I’d say give it a try if you have money to burn.
First time here came in with high expectations after eating some Nashville hot chicken last week. Personally recommend getting the chicken sandwich because the slaw and cheese blend well with the chicken patty / Tender they use on the sand which. The Tenders by themselves are too seasoned and over powered by the seasoning to eat alone. The side Mac and cheese was delicious no complaints with the chicken sandwich or Mac and cheese just don’t recommend tenders. The fries were well seasoned and cooked good take at Nashville hot but just too much seasoning.
We came here after a short hike at the Starved Rock State Park around 3pm. It was not too busy and the deco/music was cool. The cashier guy is super nice and made us feel welcome. We ordered #4 with 2 sliders and fries. The fried chicken slider (hot) hit the spot for us, and the fries was hot and crispy. I think the flavor was slight better than Chikfila, highly recommended!!
Pros: Great seasoning. Slider was cooked perfectly. Medium was a medium heat unlike places that are hot such as Port or Peri, for example.Cons: small portion for $15.Where’s the cheese? Looks like melted cheese was spread thin with a butter knife.Doesn’t look anything like the pictures they advertise on their menu.Small portion. Tenders were tiny. Slider is small. An average person with a decent appetite wouldn’t be satisfied.Chicken tender was dry, not horrible. Slider was better.Overall, Definitely give it a try as a lunch and not a last minute quick dinner.
I think if I dined in, my experience would have been different but I ordered via doordash and after an hour received my order. Everything was cold by the time it reached my home, the chicken although very flavorful, had absorbed the oil that they were fried in, and the mac and cheese wasn’t anything special. Might try again but will dine at the restaurant.
Dave's Hot Chicken has a fun dinner feel to it. I went on a weekday for lunch and ordered the two piece tenders. The whole menu is very small and easy to figure out. I like the little stickers they put next to each tender as I ordered one medium and one Hot. The chicken was very good, with a great flavor on the crispy breading and nice big juicy chicken. The Hot is ligit hot and they still have two more levels of heat up from hot. I'm temped to order my next with no spice as the chicken was that good on it's own. I only recommendation is if they could upgrade the wonder bread to a Texas toast.
The medium is the best balance of heat and flavor, the fries stay crunchy even after colling down. But the coleslaw was pretty flavorless, it was just mayonnaise and vegetables, no black pepper, no celery seeds, no salt or sugar. The extra hot spice isn't a flavor, it's just heat. And it sits there for too long. I recommend two large milkshakes to counter the heat and some extra pickles. The milkshake was McDonald's level, nothing crazy. Reasonably priced in naperville, good portions though, very filling.
I had a good food experience here. I ordered online and picked up instore but when I went in, there was standing room only. The place was packed with a couple people in line to order. I had the 2 tender meal with mac and cheese. The macaroni and cheese was good if not a little too wet. The tenders were cooked very well and were still moist on the inside. It is nice that you can order different things (spice levels) for each strip in your order. I ordered one Extra hot and the other Reaper hot. I would say the Reaper was hotter than the extra hot but in a different way. It seems like the extra hot relies heavily on the cayenne pepper for the source of heat as it was a very up front spicy heat to the chicken. I would say 7/10. The reaper used more than likely carolina reaper powder as it was very slow build up of HEAT. This was hotter than the extra hot but in a different profile. I would say that it was 8-8.5/10. Good stuff and would like to go back again.
First time here and service was top notch! Cashier explained the menu in detail and added on a free complimentary soda. Great way to show you care about the customer experience!I wanted to taste the chicken without too much spice and ordered the MILD level, which wasn't even halfway up the heat chart. WHEW, even mild had a bit of hotness that made me want to sip some drink, but it was soooo darn GOOD! A 5+ for the spicy with sweet flavor, moistness, and crunchy texture. Not so excited about the bread which was a bit dry, and the fries were just okay. Need to try the sides next time.Clean, bright, and cheerful friendly employees. Huge delicious chicken. A definite win and definitely worth the hype.
It was worth the stop. The customer service was awesome and the chicken taste freshly cooked and had the perfect crisp. I ordered one hot and one extra hot and try both were great! I would recommend
