OK so the dining room closes at nine and the drive-through closes at 10 and when I ask why the response was because of Covid and that makes no sense at all!! How are you able to stay open till nine and the drive-through at 10 and not remain open one more hour for business. It has nothing to do with Covid and everything to do with complete laziness and I swear this town is the laziest town in America and that could actually be all of Illinois from my experience
I have been a Steak-n-Shake customer since High School (I'm now 40). I am well aware of inflation and the reduction of worth in the USD, BUT... IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS I have personally eaten 6 Chilli 5-Ways from my local S-n-S... only to see the price increase 20% and the portion size is now 20% OF WHAT IT WAS 4 months ago!!! That's an 80% portion reduction. WOW!!! When I asked the employee what was going on, he replied, "We have shortages, and we are running low on certain stocks, so we have to make the portions that small." That's verbatim. I dont know if he misspoke, but THAT is bad business. If this is a franchise wide thing, it's still bad business, but if this is a location policy (in a town with 11% local tax markups...), This Is Ridiculous. I wont be returning to S-n-S. I will definitely miss their food, but this crosses an ethical line for me.
Perfect outdoor patio for your furries. The service was excellent & friendly, the food was delicious!!
super clean and efficient. ordering at the kiosk was extremely easy and the staff were very friendly. great place to have dinner or lunch and would 100% visit again if I lived in the area!
Wow, this place has taken a turn for the worse since the last time I was here. I don't know if it is just this location, or if this is a broader issue with the franchise, but I was unpleasantly surprised when we arrived. There was no one there to take my order - no more wait staff. We were greeted with four automated order kiosks, one of which was our of order. The dining room had a changed seating layout, but no other updates - the floor in particular looked worn, with broken tiles and a tired broken-down feeling throughout. The food was quickly delivered, but was not up to the quality we had recalled. The fries weren't as crispy as I remember, and the chili was different as well. The burgers were as good as I remember, though.I understand the world has changed, competition is tough, supply chain issues are challenging, and finding people willing to work food service jobs is difficult as well. However, other restaurants have adapted in more acceptable ways. It may be a while before I return, at least for dine in service.
First dine-in visit post pandemic. Changes include: No wait staff, No cashier. Order via kiosk. Food brought to table. Food was quicker than the old way. Still good quality. When you want more to drink..Help yourself. Overall satisfied.
They no longer have people to seat you and take your order you have to order it on a computer which I hate and there weren't any menus up anywhere. You could only pay with card, they didn't take cash. The place was filthy. Everything was unstocked (cups/condiments). There was only about 4 people working, so I understand they were doing the best they could, but it took forever and no one ever checked on us. We were there for almost an hour. I used to love going there, but I won't be going back.
Steak and Shake has changed I'm guessing because of Covid. For dine in you now order at a kiosk then some guy rudely screams your order number. The shakes were as good as always, but the burgers were mediocre. From now on I'll get a shake through the drive thru and get my food somewhere else.
Hadn't been to this location since the early 2000's. Was happy to see it had been maintained. Staff was very friendly. I ordered mustard on my burger but it was forgotten. Thats my only complaint. The food was hot and delicious. The only reason for not getting the 5 star was a slightly incorrect order. Will return though!
Spent $40, no greeting when walking in, had to order on kiosk, no special seasoning on the fries, and food was not the best. Staff was friendly when bringing out food. Family member ordered a larger order of cheese fries and got some fries with a small cup of liquid cheese that covered like 3 fries and it was so thick it really wouldn't come out on its own, and when asking the staff about it they said they don't put cheese on the fries anymore!!!! That is garbage, the picture shows the cheese on top of the fries on the kiosk. Will never go here again, highly recommend going somewhat else,
