The restaurant is lovely. The food was delicious and the service was very good. My only complaint related to the fact that they charged $2.00 extra per drink when ordered "neat". They claim it's because they give you more liquor. If that's the case, then when you order a drink "neat", they should tell you there is an upcharge of $2.00 per drink. Had I not reviewed the bill, I would not have noticed, and probably a lot of people don't. I called them on it and they did remove it.

This was a very off night. Have eaten here numerous times, always 5 stars. First: I'd asked for a special birthday dessert (my bad for not indicating it was a surprise). The moment we arrived, the hostess, who appeared to be in training, blurted out, "Whose birthday is it?" rather than take me aside discreetly and ask. Second: Service was strange and spotty. Odd staff handoffs, very long waits, drink orders taken twice by different people, dishes consistently handed to the wrong people, wrong drink orders showing up, etc. I ate less than half my burger and one server offered to package the rest and return. She never came back to the table. After waiting possibly 20 minutes for the server to show up again once he left the bill, I finally accosted another server, who apologized and said they'd make another burger for me to take home (they did). Lastly, they didn't bring anything out for the birthday person! He ordered a dessert on his own, and no one thought to stick a candle or sparkler in it... and I saw sparklers being served to other diners last night. Environment: Strong fishy smells invaded the dining room every several minutes - not the good kind either. Maybe tune up the ventilation? All in all, the food and atmosphere were reliably excellent, and I appreciated the apology about the burger, but the service was disappointing and not at all what I've come to expect from the Barn over the years. At this price point, diners deserve better. I do plan to come back, and wish I could have shared this feedback with them privately, but there is no ability to do that on their webpage.
Excellent food, beverage, dessert and service. A little noisy. Hard to find since it doesnât face the street as addressed. Definitely recommend.
Excellent service, incredible ambiance, and great food! On par with some of the better steak restaurants in the Chicagoland area.

A little difficult to find the restaurant because the front entrance is at the Ally not the main street. Definitely try the french onion soup. by far that's the best i had
