I was born and raised here. Have been living in Florida for about 16 years now and every time I come home I MUST have a Krekel’s cheese burger.
Stop by to pick up something for a coworker with the line being so long I thought for sure the food must be off the chain so I ordered a single burger it reminded me of the commercial where is the beef because there was no three sheets of paper was the thickness. The Burger came wrapped in paper And wasn’t greasy but somehow the bottom of the bag was full of grease. I did however enjoy the thick onion that accommodated the burger but calls me to burp repeatedly throughout the afternoon. The coworker says I should’ve ordered the double as he did it and he enjoyed himself
Stopped in for a snack as it was late when we got to town. We were surprised and happy to see the long line at the drive thru at 9:30 at night. Always a great sign of great food when they are that busy at 9:30! Friendly service, shirt wait time and we tried the suggestions we found online: jumbo pork tenderloin sandwich, lemon ice cream and strawberry/chocolate ice cream. The sandwich was ok, just very dry :-( it needed more sauce or mayo. The lemon ice cream was AMAZING just as everyone had said online. The strawberry was really good but the chocolate was not very chocolaty. All in all it was really tasty and we will be back for lemon ice cream in the future!
Still the best burger in Central Illinois IMO. Also the lemon ice cream absolutely cannot be beat. Wash it all down with an old fashioned style cherry coke and you have a winning combination. Only reason I did not give five stars was because the service could use a bit of attention to detail. Wait staff seems a bit disorganized at times. I still would highly recommend this place to any family looking for a great meal at an affordable price!

1st, the long lines are ridiculous it seems no matter what time you go. I finally decided to give it a try and wait it out. I stopped by for the 1st time ever as recommended by a local. It wasn't worth the wait. They serve thin crispy burnt patties with very little juice in them. It's definitely a burger for those who like that style; I have no idea why people like this kind of burger. Just as bad as Steak n' Shake. Only thing worth having is probably the shakes and desserts. Then even have mediocre crinkle cut fries.
We all ways go to Krekl's when we go to my mom's. It's all ways the same what I mean by that is you can go to anyone of them and they taste the same very very good.
I got lunch today. The toasted cheese was barely warm and the cheese hardly melted. The fries and the toasted cheese both tasted like they DUMPED the salt shaker on both. I like salt but prefer salt with my fries. Not fries with my salt. I got no pickles and my medium diet coke that I ordered was a small. Didn’t even notice that until I was out on the road and put the straw in it. Ended up throwing half of the toasted cheese and fries away.
Waited a long time in drive thru. Hamburger was good. My chili cheese fries were a joke. The fries were good, but the chili... nope. There was hardly any cheese; if any.First time I've been there. Maybe, a bad day. Or a rotten employee. Who knows. I will go again.
Always Great my only problem is with the person behind me riding my bumper. We have to wait....PERIOD!! Good things come to those that wait
