Sure the music is loud. Sure it’s crowded as all get out on a Sunday afternoon. Sure it’s trendy and has a bit of a “hipster vibe”. These could be good or bad qualities depending on who you are, but we sat at the bar this time around and it was all worth the wait. Totally different vibe on a Monday evening. The food is ridiculously mouthwatering, the drinks amazing, the bartender we had was super friendly!
I got taken here on a date by my boyfriend to celebrate our Anniversary. Let me tell you, this place has to be on your list for sure! The ambiance is great, the music was a whole vibe and lastly, the food was immaculate! We got the lobster tacos as an app, followed by the Whale Burger and Mac & Cheese. Drinks were spot on too! Parking is tough but be patient, you'll find a spit eventually. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great time and amazing food!
Definitely a great place for brunch/meeting with friends. Food is delicious and drinks were amazing. They have a mimosa tower (it can work among 4 people but I would come prepared to split the cost among four people). Has different menu selections for different diets. Also a really friendly staff, we met the manager and our server was great! Seating was spacious, please make sure your entire party arrives around the same time! Parking on the street may be difficult, come in advance. Will definitely visit again!
Can’t believe this place has been in my backyard all this time and it was my first visit!!! The Whale gives Art Deco meets urban luxury. Felt like I had stepped into a scene from The Great Gatsby as soon as I stepped through the front door and was immediately inspired by the decor and variety of seating options. From bar and high top seating, to booth and standard table seating, the options are endless; and there’s even outdoor seating. If you love great dining experiences and aesthetics, definitely choose to eat indoors. The high top seating by the back bar gives you a great view of the entire restaurant. Perfect if you enjoy people watching.I was there for brunch and there were soooooo many good options to choose from. I decided on the Lobster Waffle and Fingerling Potatoes and I was not disappointed. Food was brought out quickly, and much like good music, great food makes my soul dance! The lobster tail was extremely fresh, seasoned and fried to perfection. It is probably my number one reason for adding this place to the top of my brunch rotation. Waffles were a little too hard for my liking, but were good as well. Serving the syrup warm would’ve made them a bit tastier for me. The Mango Mimosa was a hit and I could see why the towers are a thing here. I could drink these all day!Customer service is a huge determining factor when it comes to whether or not I will return to an establishment. Our waiter was the perfect example of what service in an upscale restaurant should look and feel like. Whenever he came to our table, he started with “Excuse me for interrupting” or a polite line to let us know he was aware that we were talking, but there for whatever we needed. He checked in several times after food arrived to ensure it was satisfying and we had everything we needed. If you order bottles or are celebrating a birthday, they bring out the fireworks (fancy sparklers) to make you feel like a real VIP. I will definitely be returning and can’t wait to try the other items that peaked my interest. The Whale I’ll be seeing you real soon!!!
Went with a group of 8 on a Sunday evening to Celebrate a Birthday. Restaurant was busy but not full. We ordered some drink and appetizers and 6 of the 8 had dinner and the other two had an appetizer or salad. When the bill came. We were informed there was a spending limit which we did not meet and would be charged for it. Two deserts were ordered to go to made up the short fall. My complaint is no one told us about the minimum and I did not see it on the restaurants Web page. Food was good as was the service and the place was very attractive but the ending left us a little surprised. Lots of restaurants in Chicago. I don’t like being surprised. Will not come back. Also the music was played so loud you could not have a conversation
Dined here with friends. Not awful, but not a great experience. We had a reservation for an indoor table. We arrived to a totally overwhelmed hostess. Turns out, no interior tables were available (despite having reserved one), so we were seated outside…on a patio lacking covering…on a rainy evening. Not sure why you’d take reservations for tables you don’t have. Service was fine, but nothing special. Same applies to the food. Can’t say I’m excited to return.
Great food, awesome servers and service, good times , great vibe???
Exceptional breakfast! When you walk in you’re thrown into a cute 1920’s vibe with the elevated glam decor. It’s recommended to have a reservation as they get pretty busy on weekends. With indoor and outdoor seating options this place is perfect for large groups celebrating something or if you’re just looking for a good time. Ate off the brunch menu and it was SO good. I particularly enjoyed the lobster waffles because who in the world has ever had fried lobster and a waffle??? I was shocked and the presentation and the incredible taste. Cooked, seasoned, and served to perfection. The crab here in particular was phenomenal and so fresh! We also had ample mimosas which were quite tasty! Of course we topped off brunch with carrot cake as well and that didn’t fail us!
Love everything about this place from the interior decor to their food selection. Their menu is very simple yet delicious, not too many options but good you won't need to think long what to order. That purple cocktail is very unique and loved the taste.Highly recommend
