When I tell you it was the red beans and rice for me...fire. The sides be hitting. Only if they had turkey tips everyday. So good. Highly recommend.
I wish they had an option to choose no stars. The lady at the front desk was very rude and unprofessional. Black owned with no kind of professionalism. All the men there flirt and ask for your number which makes it very uncomfortable and awkward while ordering your food.. highly disappointed wouldn’t recommend. CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS!!!!!!!
The Meatloaf was to sweet to eat, maybe a choice should be given if you want that Red Sauce or Brown Gravy on your meatloaf.
I wont be back!!! I went sunday june 12th to grab a couple plates for myself and my mother. When i walked in, there was a line so i waited patiently and placed my order. As were moving along i hear some commotion at the front of the line, a customer is having words with an employee. I asked the lady in front of me if she could see what was going on ? She turned to me and said " craziness" so we laughed and kept moving. When i get to the front of the line, i was told to move all the way down to the end of the counter so i did. Im standing there watching her make my plate and she tells me to go around to the register. I replied and said " i would like to see my food being made" she gets upset saying i can watch her make it from over there so i need to move. Now everyone before me was allowed to stand there and watch her make their plates but she kept going on about how i needed to move around to the register and watch from there. Before i knew it i yelled and said " can you just make my food" she went off !!! Who you hollering at ? you just so ignorant! At this point im furious, and yes we had words exchanged. I go around to Ed who's the owner at the register and ask him to talk to his employee because she's rude and cant be talking to customers any kind of way. She turned and yelled" im his business partner and you ain't getting your food!! Leave get out! The lady next to me looked at Ed and said, your partner started this, its not her fault. He looked at me and said " I can't go against my partner" so i left. So, to make a long story even longer. The food at good life cafe is goodbut i will not contribute another dime to their success. His female business partner will be his down fall. Im sure with customer service like that, i won't be the last one to leave and never return.
Let me first start off by saying, I am a big supporter of Black owned businesses.I have been going to this cafe for about 2 years now. I went today and I feel some type of way, the owner was there, and she was very rude. Actually, I had just visited the cafe on Sunday, and she was not in a good mood on that day also, same BAD attitude!! This is not the same lady I remember meeting 2 years ago. I actually did not take it personal on Sunday, because everyone has bad days, but when I returned on Tuesday and she still had the same demeanor, I said, time for me to pump the brakes and not visit for a while, As, I was discussing what I would like on my plate, I felt rushed or like I was giving her a problem, when customers are not the problem, they are your lifeline! The food is good, but as previous reviews stated, the customer service is not there. I ordered a veggie plate and she skimped me on my sweet potatoes portion, then had the audacity to tell me that what she gave me was 6 oz.People do not mind paying for good service and good food, we all know that inflation is here, and all services are increasing. But skimping people on serving sizes and going up on the price will definitely be a deal killer!I could clearly see it wasn't, the correct amount, but she was such in a rush to push me out the door, she didn't even give me my extra muffin I paid for, I didn't even bother to call to let them know I didn't receive it.Would I go back and patronize this establishment, yes, I will, but it will be a while before I return, I didn't like getting treated like that and maybe when people start complaining about the customer service, hopefully it will get better. But if it is coming from an owner like that, it won't, because it starts with the head and the tail will follow. I wonder why staff or cooks have not survived, as I would not want to be treated like that. I have seen many come and go.I hope this reaches the reader with sincerity, because if we know better, we do better!
The Good Life Soul Food Cafe provided the most delightful, delectable, assortment of catered soul food I’ve ever tasted from a restaurant. The quality and quantity of the food superseded their generous pricing so much so that I thought my husband brought home the wrong order. I had no idea I was going to receive so much food! My 90yr old grandmother had been rejecting food for a couple days and got a taste of The Good Life, ate the entire plate, and asked for seconds. For that reason alone, I will only have my food catered from The Good Life Soul Food Cafe as long as they’re in business.
I purchased two dinners on Sunday, January 16. One dinner had way less food than the other but both same price $14. I purchased (two dinners) smothered pork chops, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and a cornbread muffin. The smothered pork chops was horrible it didn’t seem as though they were fried smothered pork chops but nonetheless they tasted horrible. The cornbread muffin was horrible, who can’t cook cornbread muffins. The collard greens and macaroni and cheese taste OK but not at all what I expected from a soulful place. The food had a smell to it, it smelled like dog food. To be honest the food was not what I expected from a soulfood restaurant. The average person could cook better Seoul food than what I received and for the price that I paid. I was highly disappointed. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant.
I placed a order for a large pan of macaroni with the owner’s son for my friends repast on February 5th 2022. He told me the total was $70. When I arrived to pick up my order I received a small pan. I have reached out to the owner only to get back a funky attitude and didn’t careless about the error in my order, she put me on hold and never returned to the phone knowing I would hang up after holding on over 30 minutes. Again this establishment doesn’t value their customers and it’s a shame you can’t always support the black businesses. If I could give them a zero I would, they have their son working in their restaurant who don’t know the prices and don’t know how to take care of a simple task with taking orders. The only thing they value is taking the customers money but when there is a problem they can careless about resolving it and have bad attitudes about it. I will never again visit this restaurant and anyone else please be careful when placing a catering order with this restaurant you may not get what you pay for. Also I was told I would receive a call back from one of the owners but again that never happened and I didn’t think it would because of the conversation over the phone. Bad business be careful at this restaurant I give them ZERO STARS!!!!
This used to be a good place for soul food the food still looks good but the portions have gotten very small for the money that you pay I used to always like going there for the turkey wings the dressing and the portions was always well worth the meal now it's just like there after only money you barely get enough to feed your kid let alone leave you hungry
When you want a good home cooked meal Good life is a great Southside Chicago Restaurant. Some times there is a line but they have quick service for take out and reasonable prices.
