Tasty authentic Japanese-Korean fare. Outstanding skewers including bacon wrapped asparagus, chicken w green onion and kimchi with pork belly. Scallion pancake w chilies. Classic nigiri of tuna and salmon. Japanese hot pot. Comfortable setting. Big clean bathrooms appreciated. Friendly service. Cold draft Asahi Super Dry w a great selection of Japanese whiskey.
This place is next to omakase yume and owned and operated by the same owner! Great sushi rolls! Loved takoyaki, TT rolls, and kana, ebi ama shooter.
I have been to many different sushi restaurants around Chicago and the country. This one is one of the best I have been to! The place is romantic, the food is excellent, the sauces are out of this world, and the pieces of nigiri or rolls challenge any sushi restaurant out there for their exceptional taste and quality as well as their presentation! In sum, this is a really excellent sushi restaurant gem!
I came to understood why the reviews were mediocre (4.0 to be exact) when I visited this place a while ago. The food was decent and quite authentic, but the price was genuinely outrageous for the portion size.
Food poisoning warning!!!We had omakase this week and BOTH OF US HAD DIARRHEA after dinner about 3 hours later. Also I THROW UP EVERYTHING I ATE.The service was also poor, they barely added water in time. What's even more ridiculous was that they asked you to show your vaccine records when got there, that was not mentioned in the appointment.Overall, for a $200 omakase dinner, this restaurant was overpriced, unprofessional and lame. Just don't go there.
Most of foods here are too salty and over flavored. Compared to the taste, price is not worth it. But their okonomoyaki was good.
Michelin star restaurant. No need to say anything else. I will come back every time I am back in Chicago.
We came in for the Omakase - A progressive meal with Japanese dishes that moves to nigiri and then dessert. We sat at the chefs counter and have a fantastic time. The chawanmushi- savoury egg custard and the agedashi tofu in yuzu were my favourite courses.Thank you to the chefs for a great meal. Tengoku has a variety of grilled skewers as well that I can’t wait to come back and try.
Do NOT recommend. I ordered a veggie tempura maki where the main ingredient was tempura sweet potato, and there was absolutely no sweet potato. I called but they argued with me and said there was sweet potato but I can assure you there wasn’t. I offered to send a picture to show I wasn’t lying but they ignored that - they should have sent me a refund. First time trying this place and will definitely be my last. Also incredibly overpriced. I paid almost $19 with a silly takeout surcharge, for takeout of vegetarian sushi that didn’t even have the main ingredient. What a joke.
Great menu, great staff. Enjoyed the Kushi yaki thoroughly. I would recommend trying the kalbi kushi it was really good even though it's on the expensive side.
